The para-Olympic Torch Relay has Begun.

And at around 19:05 on 28/8/12 I'm back from the pub.

While I was there I took a sudden and deep interest in the release of Michelle Martin in Belgium. If you're not aware of the story Martin is/was the girlfriend of Marc Dutroux who kidnapped and sexually assaulted 6 young girls who he kept prisoner in a torture dungeon he'd built in his basement. In 2004 Martin was convicted of assisting Dutroux in the kidnappings and deliberately starving two of the girls to death. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison backdated to 1996 when she was originally arrested. Despite this being a huge case in Belgium today a court headed by a Protestant Monarch has allowed Martin to be released after only 16 years to go and live in a Catholic convent. Considering the recent problems the Catholic Church has had with paedophilia and child abuse you would think they would try and avoid recruiting directly from the sex offenders wing of the local prison.
