Mexico have just defeated Brazil 2-1 to win the gold medal following a torrid match in the Olympic men's soccer final. The only thing that demonstrated was that my assertion that South Korea V Mexico would have been a much better final. Unfortunately South Korea had to play Japan in the bronze medal game in order to increase the tension in the Takeshima/Dokdo island dispute while Mexico with their tough anti-drugs stance had to be seen to defeat the more liberal stance of Brazil.
On the plus side though proper football starts tomorrow with the Charity Shield match between Chelsea and Manchester City.
