Operation Oil Theft: Month 19, Week 1, Day 2.

Yesterday (8/8/12) Libya's newly elected General National Congress (GNC) officially took over from the National Transitional Council (NTC). Obviously this is huge news for Libya and something that governments across the world are deeply interested in. Therefore with the Olympics going on I will not be discussing what I think has been going on. Instead I will talk briefly about what I think should happen next.

Rather then spending time arguing over political majorities, forming formal coalitions and electing Presidents and Prime Ministers the GNC should choose it's least political and most technically adept members and put them in charge of the ministry's (defense, health, economy, interior etc) that best suit their skills forming a cabinet that crosses party lines. This cabinet can then keep the country functioning while the other members of the GNC argue amongst themselves about the best way to solve all the other problems such as the writing of a new constitution.

I understand that this is not the sort of big and dramatic change that people associate with a revolution but if you want an Olympic metaphor even a marathon is just a series of small steps.
