As his criminal trial for having sex with an underage female prostitute enters it's final stages former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has won a last minute adjournment after having himself admitted to hospital with conjunctivitis - hardly the most life threatening eye infection in the world.
I think this deserves a quick round of applause because on one level it's just a sad old man who has already been sentenced to one year in prison for another offence trying desperately to delay the inevitable. However he still has the chutzpah to dress it up as him boldly standing up to the US over Chris Brown, boldly standing up to the UK over their Queen's recent hospital admission and him boldly raising the issues of prostitution and ages of sexual consent on International Women's Day.
For their part the UK have decided to play along by issuing a seemingly hostile statement about the Queen being back to business as usual following her admission.
