Can We Forget About the Titanic Now?

Sunday (15/4/12) was the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. If you live in Britain you could not have avoided this fact because it generated seven and a half hours of TV coverage today (15/4/12) on the terrestrial channels alone. The main reason for this is that the Titanic was built in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

In 1998 Northern Ireland had something called the Good Friday Agreement bringing peace to the province. Since then successive British governments have tried to maintain this peace by pouring money into Northern Ireland known as the Peace Dividend. Partly because of the recession and partly because it's been 14 years the British mainland is trying to wean Northern Ireland off this subsidy and make it more self-sufficient. However after more then 40 years of armed conflict there is much going on in Northern Ireland. There was though a world famous film about the Titanic called well "Titantic" so the Northern Irish tourist board have lept on the bandwagon by saying; "You know that really badly built ship that sunk on it's maiden trip - we built that!"
