Afghan Fighting Season's Begun.

When I got up today (15/4/12) at around 06:00GMT reports were coming in of gun, rocket and suicide bomb attacks across Afghanistan. By the time the Chinese F1 Grand Prix had finished around 09:00GMT these had been replaced by reports of a very large gun, rocket and suicide bomb attack in the Afghan capital Kabul.

At around 11:35GMT this attack seems to still be going on. However it appears that the Taliban found their way into the diplomatic zone and proceeded to wallop the Embassies of the nations involved in yesterday's (14/4/12) United Nations Security Council (UNSC) vote along with the Afghan national Parliament building and the NATO HQ. So the moral of the story appears to be that in life you can do what you like but there will always be consequences. At least the people of the US' tornado belt can't say they weren't warned. It also seems to be an appropriate moment to comment on a recent Time Magazine article in which Fareed Zakaria claimed that Barack Obama could become a great foreign policy President. I concur with that provided President Obama's foreign policy objective is to set fire to everything from Algeria to India.

Edited at around 12:10GMT on 15/4/12 to add: Turns out I was incorrect. Five people were killed by a tornado in Oklahoma after a warning siren failed to sound.

Edited again at around 15:00GMT on 15/4/12: The Kabul attacks are still very much going on. It turns out that the Taliban also managed to break some 400 prisoners out of jail in Pakistan at around 20:00GMT yesterday (14/4/12). The five deaths in Oklahoma occurred at around 05:00GMT this morning (15/4/12). Therefore the warning siren that failed to sound seems to be the Yanks accusing the the Pakistani security forces of aiding the jail.

I should also take a moment to warn you that in an effort to almost totally reverse my sleep pattern over night I only actually got about four hours sleep in two two hour bursts last night. As a result I've already seen more of a Sunday then I've probably seen all year and I'm trying to take the edge of with Red Bull (other energy drinks are available). Later in Britain we've got Chelsea (me) playing Tottenham (the Jews) Hotspur in the FA cup semi-final followed by another episode of "Once Upon a Time" so this is probably only going to get worse before it gets better.
