Turkey's Moved to a War Footing.

Overnight Turkey has continued to shell positions within Syria and in the last two hours the Turkish military has been authorised to undertake hostile action outside of it borders. So in all seriousness Turkey and Syria could be in a full scale shooting war by the end of the day.

Of course Turkey's decision to allow it's territory to be used as a base for the Saudi and Qatari Irregular Army (SQIA) to mount attacks against Syria means that Turkey is undoubtedly the aggressor in this situation so article 5 of NATO's Washington Treaty covering mutual defence does not apply. However in light of such naked aggression there may well need to be a very serious discussion about whether Turkey can continue as a member of NATO.

No wonder the US President was looking a bit distracted during last night's debate.

12:40 on 4/10/12.
