For certainly as long as I can remember the USA has been trying to extradite a British man - Gary McKinnon - to face charges of hacking into NASA and Pentagon computers. Today the British Home Secretary has blocked that extradition on the grounds that because Mr McKinnon suffers from Aspergers Syndrome (a form of Autism) extradition would represent an disproportionate risk to his health. Although not officially diagnosed my father is widely acknowledged to suffer from Aspergers Syndrome so by blocking the extradition Britain is hoping the US will challenge the medical reasoning behind the decision and in the process give Britain extra information about this not well understood condition because Britain's own 6 year research project has not been going so well.
