International Terrorism Day.

Over the past 24 hours there have been a slew of high profile anti-terrorism arrests across the world. Things began in Los Angles, USA yesterday when it was publicly announced that last Friday (5/10/12) a US citizen of Chinese descent was arrested a LAX airport dressed in body armour and flame resistant trousers. Inspection of his luggage revealed a cache of weapons that could also have been the ingredients for a down right odd sex party including a gas mask, a full bio-hazard suit, handcuffs, leg irons, duct tape and several leather coshes. Things were quickly followed up last night (9/10/12) with the arrest of two people who had arrived on a flight from Egypt. No exact details have been released of why they were arrested but they are suspected to planning to travel to Syria to join in armed jihad against the Syrian government. This morning police in Paris, France announced that they had uncovered a cache of bomb making equipment including potassium nitrate, sulphur and saltpetre which they are linking to a group of Islamic extremists who are being investigated over a series of hand-grenade attacks against Jewish owned businesses.

The reason for this flurry of anti-terrorist activity is Syria. All of Turkey's bluster about shelling Syrian government positions in order to send a warning over Syrian mortar fire hitting Turkey was a lie. It was all made up as a cover to allow Turkey to provide the Saudi and Qatari Irregular Army (SQIA) with artillery support. As a result the SQIA have been able to take control of a number of strategic positions withing northern Syria. As always happens whenever there's even the slightest hint that the SQIA might be making progress the coalition backing them start thinking about the post-Assad future. The big concern is that once Assad falls all these Islamic extremists that the coalition have trained, armed and battle hardened will turn their attentions towards the coalition just like the Mujahideen did after the USSR withdrew from Afghanistan. Of course what the coalition is hoping is that these Sunni jihadists can be diverted instead to Iraq in order to restart that war.
