Yep the Man's an Idiot.

In April 2012 the analogue TV signal will be switched off in the UK. This has prompted my father to upgrade our TV system to a FreeSat service in one room and digital Freeview in other rooms. Unfortunately he rushed into this without doing a shred of research. As a result he's managed to get a Standard Definition (SD) FreeSat system installed which provides a slightly worse picture then Digital Freeview. As access to High Definition (HD) services is one of the main selling points of FreeSat even finding someone who still manufactures SD systems was an achievement. This now means that in my grandmother's house we have a HD system attached to a SD TV while in our house we have a SD system attached to a HD TV. To make matters worse the installation process means that my house has pretty much been a building site for most of today (17/12/11). On the plus side though it means I get to watch news channels that aren't the BBC and therefore may contain news.
