Gas Panic

Throughout the COP/CMP process Britain has never accepted the possibility that climate change/global warming could be the result of increased greenhouse gas emissions caused by human activity. However they have been very keen to use the process as a metaphor to discuss a host of other issues. In order to keep the ruse going they have been forced to make a lot of gestures to make it look as though they're open to the possibility that humans are causing climate change. Chief amongst these has been making sure that Britain met it's Kyoto emissions cuts by switching electricity production from dirty coal fired power stations towards cleaner gas fired power stations. As a result Britain's power generating infrastructure is now very heavily dependent of natural gas. As Britain doesn't really have it's own supplies of natural gas this makes Britain very dependent on imports from other countries which represents a strategic weakness. Although Britain has very good relations with natural gas exporters such as Qatar the free market system means that rather then being transferred on a government to government level Britain's natural gas supplies are actually traded through the private wholesale market which Britain has much poorer relations with. So in order to increase it's control over the wholesale gas market on November 12th Britain launched a big inquiry into the industry. Britain has been aided in this goal by the United States through the Hewlett Packard (HP)/Autonomy scandal and rigging the Billboard 100 chart to make sure Rihanna's "Diamonds" some eight weeks after it's release. Of course that last part also served to give Rihanna the false confidence to go ahead with the Chris Brown reunion which their handlers hoped would draw focus onto the relationship and allow the US to control one of the major themes of the COP18/CMP8 Summit.

Apart from being an enquiry about the recent Israel/Gaza conflict yesterday's (23/11/12) natural gas explosion in Springfield, Massachusetts was the US conceding that the Rihanna operation is now in ruins and needs to be terminated. However the fact that Massachusetts is where Mitt Romney used to be Governor indicates that they will not be terminating the operation and instead try and draw everybody into the belief that there is some sort of power struggle going on within the US establishment over the Rihanna issue. I think that's a shame because China have already laughed the US out of the door on the matter and judging by the breadth and depth of "WantsDiamondsWorldTour" hashtags going around Twitter like the invasion of Iraq the Rihanna issue looks like it's going to become an open sore reminding everyone how much they hate the US and how undeserving of favours it is.
