UK Hand Transplant Get Two Fingered Salute.

Weeks after the UK performed it's first hand transplant surgeons at the John Hopkins hospital in the US have performed a double arm transplant on a soldier wounded in Afghanistan. The main metaphor here is the 'Rehabilitation of Rihanna' narrative that the US has been trying to build up ahead of the tour. However to give you an idea of the tone of the announcement the patient is a guy called Brendan Marrocco which is just one letter out from Morrocco, his hand therapist goes by the name of Marlee which is pronounced the same as Mali and there's a Dr Assad in there somewhere too. The bit that caught my eye though was at the press conference Marracco appeared in a T-shirt bearing the slogan; "Keep Calm and Chive On" which is version of the "Keep Calm and Carry On Slogan" that appears to be everywhere these days. Coined by the British Ministry of Information during the second world war the "Keep Calm and Carry On" posters were to be used following the invasion of Britain by Nazi Germany. So it's the slogan we use when we're being over-run by fascists.

16:50 on 29/1/13.
