The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest: Grand Final. Pt.4.

This should be read as a direct continuation of Part 3; http://watchitdie.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/the-2016-eurovision-song-contest-grand_17.html

Ideally I would have liked to have published it as one long post. However in what I like to think is a form of protest against all these eastern European names the spellcheck on this blog has started correcting the word "Blogspot" to "Bloodsport." Mind you it can't cope with the word; "Spellcheck" which suggests a certain lack of self-awareness.

At the start of 2014 the US invaded the nation state of Ukraine and overthrew its government creating the Shamali (northern) Province of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Since then the US has been trying to whip Shamali Province's neighbours up into an absolute frenzy at the logically hard to follow idea that US aggression in eastern Europe will lead to Russia invading eastern Europe.

As part of this effort the US has demanded that a NATO Rapid Response "Spearhead" Force is established and permanently stationed in Poland. The US has also demanded that an Air Policing Force is established across the three Baltic states but centred in Estonia. As recently as May 3rd (3/5/16) the US announced that it intends to demand that NATO establishes a second Spearhead force in one of the Baltic states - most likely Latvia or Estonia.

The US' desire for a massive military buildup in eastern Europe however has not been limited to NATO members. They have also being trying to pressure the government of Moldova to accept a permanent US military presence in pretence of guarding against a popular uprising in Moldova's ethnically Russian Transnistria region.

The first full day of this year's Song Contest May 9th (9/5/16) was also "Victory Day." Amongst formally aggressively atheist Soviet states this is one of the biggest public holidays of the year marking the defeat of Nazi Germany at the end of the Second World War. One of the big centrepieces to the commemorations is what is know as "The March of the Immortal Battalion." This sees the descendants of the roughly 27 million Soviet troops who gave their lives to defeat the Nazis march in honour of their sacrifice.

In an astonishingly provocative move the US announced that it was going to parade its tanks through the middle of the Immortal Battalion march in the Moldovan capital Chisinau. Such was the backlash from the Moldovan public that the tanks were forced to retreat.

At the start of February the US announced that it was re-opening the Cold War era Keflavik Air Base in Iceland. We've already heard what Iceland thinks of that.

Therefore I should look next at the entries of the three Baltic states this year. Last year of course they all unanimously voted in support of the creation of Shamali Province. Latvia even went so far as give the US a proxy vote with "Love Injected" by Aminata Savadogo.

Estonia:  Their entry this year "Play" by Juri Pootsmann was a full condemnation of Shamali Province. The title "Play" was a reference to the US-backed junta's belief that international law and the accepted norms of behaviour do not apply to them so they don't have to play by those rules. The Minsk Protocol and the Song Contest's "No Overt Politics" rule being particular cases in point.

Featuring lyrics such as; "might seem so obvious to me//but not to you not to you" and; "we ain't got all night//to find out what is right" this was a very clear rejection of the junta's Nazi values and telling them they haven't got long to sort themselves out. After all even amongst lovers patience is not endless.

Juri Pootsmann is rather handsome young man who has a look about him that certain gay men find very attractive. I think the slang term is "Twink" but obviously slang changes. Prior to each at performance a short video sequence known as a "Postcard" is played. Essentially this is to provide time for the stage to be re-set between acts but it also allows the act and the nation they represent to introduce themselves to the audience.

In a sequence in Estonia's postcard Pootsmann is shown from behind sitting on a jetty by a lake fully nude. He then dives into the lake with his pert boy buttocks on display for all to see. This was a jokey nod to the sex, nudity and censorship debate and in particular the TV show "Deutschland 83." After all according to that show inviting someone to swim nude in lake is considered the hottest date imaginable to any German.

The fact this was male nudity being discussed in front of a Eurovision audience obviously means that it's a reference to the gay rights and Pinkwashing issues. This was reinforced by the lighting scheme used during both of Pootsmann's performances and the performance video in support of the song. This featured heavily on red and black lighting.

It was very clearly a reference to "Love Injected" from last year. Fitting together with Taylor Swift's "Bad Blood" which was the US attempts to storm the barricade last year this was an attempt to whip up anti-Russian sentiment amongst the gay community by referencing HIV/AIDS. The accusation being that all Russians view HIV/AIDS as a gay plague, punishment from God against the perverts. As such all gays should support ISIL and the Nazis!

As such the general tone of Estonia's entry was a massive apology to Russia by making a small joke at the expense of those who just can't see past the gayness of it all.

With his very sharp suit Pootsmann also resembled what is termed a "Hipster." Estonia is a very young, liberal and forward thinking nation. For example I think it has some of the highest rates of Internet use in the world. As such this seemed to be the government - or at least the Eurovision team - going to that young population;

"Before you complain try and remember that we do this all day every day. Trust us. Shamali Province is not something you want to get involved in supporting."

Latvia: They of course were the only nation in the entire competition to support Shamali Province. However even they couldn't find anything good to say about them. Instead their entry - "Heartbeat" by Justs seemed more like a tantrum against all those who had switched their vote from last year.

A rather ominous Europop Techno number this featured lyrics like; "I’m getting wild when I’m alone"  and the chorus; "Feeling your heartbeat//That’s what I want//That’s what I need//Feeling again that you’re breathing with me" it sounded like an angry breakup where they're demanding to know what happened to their former lover's heart and soul.

I think the song was aimed at everyone who had changed their vote. However Latvia's neighbour Estonia came in for particular attention. The colours of the Estonian flag are Blue, Black & White. Both the performance video in support of the song and Justs semi-final the lighting scheme featured lots of blue, black and white light although the white light was probably hard to pick up on because it's more commonly known just as; "Light."

In his biography Justs' musical credibility is established by the fact that he is a guitar playing busker. He cites amongst his musical influences Ray Charles and Micheal Jackson. This is obviously a reference to the black music and because he's worked with Latvian hip-hop artist Gacho could be interpreted as a sign of support for US President Obama. However it struck me as something that had been crow-barred in at the last minute once they noticed that the black music was emerging as a trend.

The other thing that struck me about Justs' biography is that he is currently in teacher training to become a vocal coach. There is an old showbiz saying that those who can't do teach. As such this could be Latvia indicating that they are open to the possibility that they might be wrong about this.

During Justs' Grand Final performance gone was the blue, black and white colour scheme. It was replaced by reds and blacks instead. This could be viewed as Latvia going;

"Having assessed the mood in the room we wish to change our answer. We would now like to fall completely in line with Estonia."

After all to make that sort of change you have to file the necessary paperwork. Once the paperwork is approved you have to work with the host's lighting guys to explain to them exactly what you want. As such the rumour would have go around the Song Contest bubble.

However the black and reds in Estonia's entry were in reference to "Love Injected." As such it could be Latvia further sticking the knife into Estonia. It was so subtle though not only wasn't it going to be picked up on by hardcore Song Contest fans it seemed only directed at the Estonian Eurovision team.

I gather that the Russian Aerospace Force (RuAF) and the NATO Air Policing Force have been keeping each other entertained this week in the international Baltic Sea skies adjecent to Estonia.

Lithuania: It seems clear to all that Shamali Province have approached this contest thinking that everyone will vote to fully endorse them and their US backers. On the back of this resounding victory the NATO tanks can finally launch their final assault on Russia. The impure blood will flow through the streets of Moscow and the world will once and for all be purified of the Russian Infidel.

Lithuania's entry - "I've Been Waiting For This Night" - is just an open and savage mockery of that attitude.

The big thing about the singer Donny Montell is that in 2008 he won the Grand Prize at the Belorussian festival, "Slavianskij Bazar." That is Lithuania going to the US-backed junta; "No, no. Minsk Protocol son." He also represented Lithuania back at the 2012 Song Contest in Azerbaijan. Apart from a brief nod to the latest upsurge in violence the Nagorno-Karabakh Region (NKR) you may remember that. It was back in the old days, before this Shamali Province nonsense started.

It was the video in support of Lithuania's entry that really impressed me though. It shows Donny Montell at a really cool underground club/warehouse party.

To my mind this conjured up memories of the video for "Prayer in C" by "Lilly Wood & the Prick" (aka: "Robin Schulz). However that's only because if you really listen to that song it's got rather deep, soulful undertones hidden beneath a slightly annoying Euro-House tune. That's a very Song Contest thing to do.

You could equally compare it to a host of other videos not limited to "How We Do (Party)" by Rita Ora, "We Can't Stop" by Miley Cyrus or "Let's Dance" by Lady Gaga.

Featuring many - for Lithuania - ethnic minority faces and people who appear to be gay this was intended to send the message that Lithuania very much wants to be part of a liberal, forward thinking, multicultural Europe. They want nothing to do with the Nazi sh*t of Shamali Province.

A cynic would suggest that this video had been produced by the Lithuanian Tourist Board in conjunction with RyanAir. However if you were debating that for a week I'm sure you could bring up other low-cost airlines such as Germanwings or Metrojet.

The video starts with Montell walking down a city street when a woman in a short-skirt and low-cut top whose propped up against a wall starts giving him the eye. You might assume that she's a prostitute. After all Song Contest fans are rather conditioned to discuss topics like prostitution.

On the open door behind the woman - which we later find leads to the party - there is a white and blue sign. You may confuse this with the Israeli flag.

If you've been following the internal political discussions in Shamali Province you would know that none of their problems stem from the fact they've decided to cleanse an entire ethnic group from their country. Nor do they stem from the fact that a large proportion of their politicians are hopelessly corrupt stealing vast amounts of the nation's wealth.

Instead all of Shamali Province's problem are the result of the Global Zionist Conspiracy.

As such supporters of the US-junta may well have interpreted this sequence as a sign of Lithuanian support with all those voicing opposition being dismissed as; "Whores of the Zionist Conspiracy!"

It was actually Lithuania going; "No mate. If you can't pass that little entry test you're not welcome at our party."

Demonstrating that the captain of this ghost ship is looking to sail us into irony free waters the Shamali Province jury gave the maximum 12 points to;

Lithuania.
