The Galliano Incident.

In a scandal that has jeopardised thousands of expensive gowns yesterday (1/3/11) the British fashion designer, John Galliano was sacked by the French fashion house, Dior after he was filmed racially abusing and making anti-Semitic remarks to a couple in a French restaurant. Obviously most of this story is far too highbrow for me but there is an important political aspect to it.

Amid the chaos of the financial crisis France formed a strategic alliance with Britain that involved a plan to share military resources such as aircraft carriers. France now appears to be re-considering this relationship and apologising for it in the strongest terms availible to a French man.
