Today the home help supervisor came round to get my grandmother to pay for and allow a Croydon Council approved home help into her home. My grandmother flatly refused to give her consent. This caused the supervisor and my father to have quite a long head-scratching and conspiratorial conversation to decide their next move. The nuclear option they discussed was getting a doctor to rule my grandmother mentally deficient so Croydon Council wouldn't need her consent and can treat her against her will. Nothing was decided so we've moved into a little bit of a lull while the state considers it's next move.
In related news tonight a rather theatrical meeting between the leaders of the three main political parties to discuss the issue of MP's expenses broke up without agreement. In light of today's budget I feel I should pull them to one side and explain that while the country is facing at least a decade of cuts to health care spending and there is no money to trial and error new treatment protocols the ability to provide cheap and effective health care could be considered a national security issue. To put it more simply, the only choice Britain has now is the degree by which it loses.
