The Chattanooga, erm, Shooting.

At around 15:00GMT (11:00 local) news began to break that a shooting incident had occurred at a military recruitment office in Chattanooga, Tennessee, US. This was followed almost immediately by news of another shooting at a US Navy reserve base near-by.

Due to the involvement of the US Navy the first suspicion was that along with the recent, false reports of a shooting at the US Navy Yard in Washington this was just another US attempt to convince us that Rihanna was still relevant ahead of Chris Brown's upcoming visits to Israel, Lebanon and the Philippines.

Failing that with the US at least nominally being at war with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) for the past year and ISIL calling for attacks on US targets during Ramadan - which ends today depending on local sightings of a new moon - an ISIL inspired terror attack was always going to be the most likely scenario. After all the US authorities are disrupting plots of this type at the rate of around one a week. In the UK it's a rate of around one per day.

As it always tends to do what confused matters were eyewitness statements given to the press in the immediate aftermath of the recruiting office shooting. Specifically by two black women who worked at the adjoining nail salon. They were very clear that a white man driving a silver Ford Mustang convertible had carried out the shooting. With military police circulating a description of a black BMW sedan this sounded to me as though they were trying to make it very clear that it wasn't black people who carried out the attack. After all just on Tuesday (14/7/15) several black men ambushed a police officer in St Louis, Missouri in what would be investigated anywhere else in the World as a terror attack.

It's since emerged that the vehicle involved was a silver Ford Mustang convertible so I retract any accusation that the witness lied about the type of vehicle in an attempt to mislead.

The US Federal government then put out a statement claiming that there was no connection to Islamist terrorism. Local authorities then announced that they were investigating the matter as a possible act of domestic terrorism. Along with the eyewitness description this gives the impression of the sort of right-wing lunatic who gets worked up by the conspiracy theories surrounding the "Jade Helm" military exercise.

It's now emerged that the Federal government had gone into full blown lie mode. The attacker has since been identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez - a 24 year old Kuwaiti national whose parents were likely given asylum in the US following the invasion by Iraq in 1990. Many of those who sort asylum had colluded with the invasion.

Although Obama did speak briefly to the press the verdict in the Colorado shooting trial has been brought forward buy time while he tries to work out just how many of his policies are currently on fire.

22:15 on 17/7/15 (UK date)

Edited at around 22:55 on 16/7/15 (UK date) to add;

It's still July 16th 2015. Ramadan ends tomorrow (provisionally).
