I'm On To The Last Leg.;

Because I'm back from the pub, there's c*ck all on TV and I thought it would be easy.

As I seem to mention every time there's an Olympics during the 2012 Paralympics the UK's Channel 4 unveiled a daily show called "The Last Leg" which was intended to take a satirical look back at the day's event. It was fronted by Adam Hills who despite being an Australian is generally quite funny. He is also a below the knee amputee who has covered many previous Paralympics for various broadcasters.

Therefore when it comes to disability rights issues and Paralympic sport there is little he doesn't know. As a result the show quickly became a big hit of the 2012 games and therefore part of the Olympic circus.

Unfortunately Channel 4 quickly decided to cash in on the show's success and tried to turn it into a more general review of the week show. Sadly the people involved had quite a poor grasp of the news stories they were supposed to be satirising so it quickly turned into an echo chamber for the worst left-wing prejudices.

So for example the host would shout; "Gay Rights!" and the audience would cheer or; "UKIP!" and the audience would "Boo!" loudly.

This really started to infuriate me about a week after the final day of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, France. Although the show was keen to fly a banner and show its support for "Free Speech" it was much more interested in excusing the attackers for being so offended about some cartoons.

The show's particular ire was draw by a Fox News report in which Steven Emerson declared Birmingham, UK to be a "totally Muslim City."

The Last Leg used this as an excuse to launch into an attack on America's Republican voting, gun owning, Bible reading citizens which it declared to be just as bad as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). In order to prove their point they showed clips of that infamous Indiana video which showed a 1 year old infant playing with and unloaded handgun alongside a video of a 10/11 year old boy 'playing' with a handgun in an ISIL video.

What the show failed to mention is that we were aware of the US video because the police had seen it online and intervened before releasing it to the public as evidence. In the ISIL video the child was being forced to kill several people for being 'infidels' by ISIL's version of the police.

The fact that a TV show comparing the two was allowed to be broadcast in UK really p*ssed me off.

Shortly afterwards ISIL released another video showing a Jordanian pilot being burnt alive. Suddenly The Last Leg decided that they'd hated ISIL all along and started making big jokes at their expense.

For example they launched a competition to "Rename ISIL" but throughout claimed that ISIL's name was actually "ISIS" as in "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" despite this being both wrong and extremely misleading.

They also started the #JihadiFoodTour hashtag but then baulked at the suggestion of "Notre Ham Cathedral" in case it was too offensive to Muslims.

Going back to Steven Emerson's comments on Fox News though it is of course ridiculous to claim that Birmingham is an entirely Muslim city or even that it contains Muslim areas that are no-go areas for non-Muslims. However it does contain areas that are around 70-80% Muslim which can be intimidating for non-Muslims to enter and you certainly wouldn't open a traditional English pub there.

Although certainly not Salifi the Pakistani interpretation of Islam which dominates in the UK is one of the more aggressive forms of Islam. Therefore the Spark Hill area of Birmingham has the dubious honour of producing more proven terrorists then any other area of the UK.

The issue is probably more pronounced in the Yorkshire city of Bradford although there has been great efforts made since the cities Muslim ghettos exploded into 3 days of intense race-riots back in July 2001.

The current MP for Bradford West is of course George Galloway - that famous friend of Iraq's Saddam Hussein and down trodden Muslims everywhere. Using the term "Bradford Spring" Galloway won the seat in 2012 with a 34% - the 3rd largest in UK political history - away from the Labour Party by playing up his support for the Palestinian cause and playing on every other Muslim prejudice. The famously cigar smoking, whiskey swilling Galloway even accused his Labour, Muslim opponent of "Enjoying a drink."

Since then the UK Labour Party have been open to allegations of "Doing a Galloway."  Essentially appeasing even the most repellent Paki - CAGE UK and the Rotherham sex abuse gang spring to mind - in the hope of winning a couple of votes.

On a related note I've been considering the issue of radicalisation in the UK - specifically those teenage girls. Here in the UK we have this idea of "Public Service Broadcasting" which is actually written into the licenses of both the BBC and Channel 4.

In practical terms this means that if there is a big issue affecting "the kids" TV will drop in a few big clues for their parents. For example tonight Channel 4 broadcast a 90 minute abortion of a TV show called "Drugs Live" that explained Marijuana. Cyber-bullying and 'sexting' have also been big issues recently

However when it comes to ISIL TV provides no such ammunition to parents instead choosing to nod and agree with whatever mental such as "Jihadi John" has to say. So rather then extending "equal rights" to the Muslims I can't help but feel that UK TV is actually letting down a growing section of its audience.

01:20 on 4/3/15 (UK date).
