On April 15th 2013 (15/4/13) two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED's) exploded at the finishing line of the Boston Marathon in Boston, Massachusetts, US. Tomorrow (5/1/15) the trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev accused of planting those IED's will begin in Boston, Massachusetts with Jury selection.
As I pointed out that the time I think the primary motivation behind this attack was the US trying to breathe new life into its ill-fated Rihanna operation. So for example the Boston Marathon is part of the international tour of marathons that allow athletes to qualify for the Olympic games. Rihanna was of course dumped on me during the closing ceremony of the 2012 Para-Olympic games that were held in London, UK. The US were hoping that the drama that surrounded Rihanna's 2013 Diamond's World Tour would make them the centre of attention and therefore the most powerful nation on earth.
Unfortunately after little more then a month the Rihanna operation was already in deep trouble so the US needed to do something big and dramatic to try and resurrect it. Therefore politically the Boston Marathon bombings could be interpreted in a host of ways. Most of these can be read at my library of posts (http://100badones.blogspot.com) where "Boston" has its own index label.
However one thing I failed to pick up on at the time is that the main suspects are from the Chechnya region of Russia. Over the years the Russian government have suffered at lot of problems with Muslim extremists from Chechnya carrying out mass casualty terror attacks such as the Beslan Massacre to name but one.
In March of 2013 the US were still very much firm supporters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in their efforts to unlawfully overthrow the Syrian Government. Therefore it is possible that a Chechen was chosen to carry out this attack in order to issue a veiled threat to Russia that if they continued to oppose ISIL then terror attacks could be arranged. Of course in the summer of 2013 Saudi Arabia's Prince Bandar bin Sultan made that threat much more explicit by simply telling Russia that if they continued to oppose ISIL Saudi Arabia would carry out terror attacks against the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The first of those attacks occurred on December 29th 2013 (29/12/13) in Volgograd just before the US overthrew the Ukrainian government.
Obviously though I think it is extremely unlikely that any of these issues will be brought up at the trial where the jury will be asked simply to consider whether Tsarnaev planted those two IED's along with various other charges of, I think, conspiracy to murder and conceal evidence.
I don't want to prejudice that trial in any way shape or form but I gather that in an effort to secure a reduced sentence Tsarnaev's defence team have tried to have the trial moved by citing the precedent of the Oklahoma bombings that were an element of the original story along with the Waco siege. The Judge though has though, in my opinion rightly, ruled that the people of Boston are adult enough to separate their personal feelings and try the case on its individual merits.
Therefore those who were injured, saw relatives killed or were in another way affected by the bombings get to look Tsarnaev in the eye as he is either convicted or acquitted.
