It is not just at this year's Song Contest where Rock music has been seeing a resurgence. It also seems to be making a comeback across western societies in general.
The prime example would be the US singer Willow Smith. Although I'm not sure how indicative that is of a wider trend.
Willow Smith's mother is Jada Pinkett-Smith. Believe it or not, Jada Pinkett-Smith used to be the lead singer in the Heavy Metal band; "Wicked Wisdom." So that is clearly just what they do in the Smith household.
Jada Pinkett-Smith's entire career as Black woman who is the lead singer in a Heavy Metal band. A legacy which now seems to have been passed down to her daughter. Touches on the issue of America's very narrow view of what a Black person is allowed to be.
So Black people aren't allowed to like, let alone perform, Heavy Metal music. Just as they're not allowed to like or perform Country music. Instead all Black American people must pretend to be gangsters and street thugs while listening only to Rap and Hip-Hop music.
Although, obviously that is more of a US issue than a European issue. Many European nations, certainly in the East, have no idea what Black people are. They've certainly none of their own.
However Covid was not the only pox that the World suffered during 2020.
The entirely self-inflicted death of George Floyd combined with the Pandemic restrictions. Triggered a sort of collective mental breakdown in the form of the Black Lives Matter campaign.
Within the, particularly British, music and entertainment industry. The collective mental breakdown that was Black Lives Matter. Fuelled a frenzied pursuit of the vaguely defined; "Inclusivity."
Suddenly it seemed that everyone wanted a little ethnic pet of their own. So even the absolute worst dross of the Rap and Hip Hop genres suddenly found themselves getting signed to record labels and heavily promoted with TV and Radio airplay.
It is as if some extremely rich, privileged White people. Are still genuinely surprised that some Black people can read out loud.
Rap and Hip Hop music are, traditionally, entirely electronic.
So Eurovision choosing Rock music and acts playing actual, physical musical instruments. Seems to be something of a pushback against Black Lives Matter. Particularly the absolutely awful music the thirst for inclusivity has spawned.
As I'm sure Jada Pinkett-Smith is well aware. Sections of the Rock, Punk and, particularly, Metal scene can be extremely racist. Full-on Nazi, Neo-Nazi and White Supremacist.
Something which is particularly relevant now the World and particularly Europe finds itself suffering deeply. Due to NATO's overindulgence and encouragement of Ukrainian Nazis, Neo-Nazis and White Supremacists.
That is something I hope to expand or more fully in discussing Ukraine's own entries. Ukraine's entry this year is literally a side project of one of the members of the band who were Ukraine's entry last year.
This resurgence of Rock is not just limited to Willow Smith.
The US singer Olivia Rodrigo also has angsty pop-Punk, Grunge, Rock elements to her work. Something she's certainly been keen to play up with her collaborations with early-2000's pop-Punk star Avril Lavigne.
The return to Rock also seems to extend beyond the world of music into the mainstream.
Kourtney Kardashian has been in a long-term relationship with Travis Barker. Who was the drummer with the late 1990's pop-Punk band Blink-182. Before joining The Transplants, a side project of the much more serious Punk band Rancid.
Travis Barker has been recently collaborating with Willow Smith. I understand that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker got legally married on the day of the Eurovision Grand Final.
Then there is Machine Gun Kelly, who San Marino's Achille Lauro was very much aimed at this year.
Although that was just a minor element of a stand-out act. Named after a ship hijacked by the Palestinian Liberation Army (PLA). Led by a commander who was eventually captured after the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.
I don't really know what genre of music Machine Gun Kelly performs. However from his tattoos and general attitude he certainly looks and acts like a Rock star.
Since early 2020 Machine Gun Kelly has been in a long-term relationship with Megan Fox. Through their respective partners Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian seem to have become friends.
Megan Fox used to be married to Brian Austin Green, with whom she has three children. They got together while Brian Austin Green while he was working on the TV show; "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."
This was the first big project for Summer Glau after the; "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" spin-off; "Firefly." Unfortunately not knowing about Firefly, let alone her role in it. Terminator; The Sarah Connor Chronicles is how I came to ruin Summer Glau's career.
So Megan Fox and I have certainly been aware of each other for the best part of decade.
Which is probably how she came to play the role of my Israeli Jewish, bisexual girlfriend in the Eminem video; "Love the Way You Lie." With Rihanna playing the role of my girlfriend's girlfriend.
I think Megan Fox might actually have met one of my mothers in real-life. While making a documentary about Stonehenge.
When I arrived in Salisbury, the day after Megan Fox had left. I was certainly faced with a lot of questions about that American woman with the camera crew and gaggle of children in tow.
It almost goes without saying. That Kourtney Kardashian and Kim Kardashian definitely know each other.
Prior to the Great American Bell Ringing of October 2021. Kim Kardashian and I were Social Media or; "Facebook Friends."
Which does pose the question;
"Is this resurgence of Rock entirely my fault?!"
At the time of the 2021 Song Contest I was starting to resume contact with Miley Cyrus, for the first time in about 8 years. Exploring the possibility of some sort of relationship developing between us.
I think that even us who were never that sure who she was or why she was famous. Then have actively ignored her for the past 8 years. Are aware that Miley Cyrus has been something of a life journey.
From spoiled, rich White girl. To supposedly bisexual Punk-Rock chick.
Personally I've always had my doubts about this.
It seems too close to the character arc of "Abby Parker." From the US TV show; "The Deuce."
My brother gave me Season 1 of The Deuce for Christmas in 2018. At the height of my involvement in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and associated groups in Syria and Iraq.
My brother then very loudly announced. That he had asked his Indian Muslim girlfriend to marry him. As the pair celebrated Christmas.
Making it seem as though my entire family was on some weird sex crusade against Islam.
My fury was only compounded. By the fact that this was the same day it emerged that Miley Cyrus, of all people! Had managed to get married quietly, in secret.
Miley Cyrus of course helped organise the 2017 benefit concert. For victims of the ISIL bombing of the Manchester Arena.
A big feature of Miley Cyrus' supposed transition to Punk-Rock chick is her emulation of Debbie Harry. Lead singer of the band Blondie.
Blondie are actually a; "New Wave" band. New Wave being a small, short-lived but important genre in the history of music.
As I seem to have been writing about constantly for two years. All western popular music can really trace its roots to the birth of Jazz and Blues.
Blues music eventually became Rock music. While Rock music eventually became ridiculously self-indulgent and overblown.
"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly being a case in point. A 17 minute and 3 second case in point.
Punk emerged as a fast, short, stripped-back rebellion against how ridiculously self-indulgent and bloated Rock had become.
This led to accusations that Punk is not a real form of music. It's just noise being made by people who can't even play their instruments.
The Sex Pistols were always more of a performance art piece than a band. However Sid Vicious certainly didn't have a musical bone in his body.
All the bass guitar parts on Sex Pistols songs are played by someone else entirely. They just stuck Sid Vicious up on stage because he looked the part.
However many Punk artists are actually very technically accomplished musicians. If your ears and brain can keep up then many songs hark back to the melodies of the birth of Rock n' Roll.
New Wave really expanded on the musical abilities of Punk. Some New Wave bands like Spandau Ballet started playing about with synthesisers and other new, microprocessor based, instruments.
From there Electronic Dance Music (EDM) emerged. EDM seeming to be the main form of western Pop music at the moment.
Punk and New Wave is a genre and era that I'm actually quite knowledgeable about.
I actually attended the same, essentially, Community College as the Sex Pistol's manager Malcolm McLaren. Although many years later. It was there where I met my Israel Jewish, bisexual girlfriend.
So hearing that Miley Cyrus might be interested in that type of music. I started suggesting some other, much more obscure, songs that she might also like. Very much in the style of;
"Well. A lot of meddling, matchmaking friends have shoved us together. Apparently neither of us can leave until we at least try talking to each other."
"Do you want to talk about this?"
If I had to pick a song from the genre/era to provide the theme music for the whole thing. I would choose; "Bye Bye Baby Blue" by The Undertones.
Not least because it references "This Year's Girl" by Elvis Costello. Which was used as the opening theme music for season 2 of The Deuce.
All of which seems to have found the ears of Demi Lovato. Who, like Miley Cyrus, is a Disney child actress turned popstar.
In January 2022 Demi Lovato held a "funeral" for her pop career. To mark her re-launch as a Punk-Rock artist.
Demi Lovato and I have been aware of each, other certainly since her drugs overdose in 2018.
Not least because her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valdarrama is a cast member of the US TV show; "NCIS." One of the few cast members who wasn't also in; "From The Earth To The Moon."
Which brings me on to one of the most sickening things that Miley Cyrus and her evil clan did in 2022. A year in which they did a great many truly sickening and appalling things.
They attempted to create a fake lesbian romance between Demi Lovato and Noah Cyrus, Miley's younger sister. All while Demi Lovato is indulging this ridiculous current fad for self-selecting gender pronouns.
I think it is well established public knowledge that Demi Lovato has long struggled with mental illness, particularly eating disorders. Actual eating disorders, not the type every female celebrity seems to develop every time they need some press coverage.
I also think it is established public knowledge. That not only did Demi Lovato suffer a drugs overdose in 2018 she was also brutally raped. This near fatal drugs overdose has left her with serious, long-term heath problems. I think she is now legally blind.
Although I've not seen it. I gather this was all covered in detail in the 2021 Netflix documentary; "Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil."
I don't want to further add to the stigma surrounding Demi Lovato.
However what we are talking about are serious and real medical and psychological problems. As such they are covered by the Hippocratic Oath; "First do no harm."
It's one thing for me, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna or whoever to muck about on the Internet. Gossiping about Eurovision, the Oscars even other celebrities.
The issues that Demi Lovato has to deal with are something you could not even contemplate addressing in that way. If I was a medical professional treating her I would be legally forbidden from sharing that information with anyone.
The same is true of what has been widely reported as Kanye West's Bipolar Disorder. Something which I might be able to give his, now, ex-wife Kim Kardashian some insight into. At least to help minimise the impact of the divorce on their children.
If Kim Kardashian were to do something like that. Then that would be the point where we would have to bring in military grade counter-surveillance measures. Something I'm more than capable of doing, even without Elon Musk's chequebook.
Of course if Kim Kardashian were to then share my insights with members of her social and professional circles. Then that would be her choice to make. Not mine.
So to my mind and, clearly, to the minds of a lot of other people.
Miley Cyrus and particularly Noah Cyrus' behaviour towards to Demi Lovato has crossed the line into the criminal. Reckless Endangerment bordering on Attempted Murder.
I don't really care whether the police in California get her for drink, drugs or driving. Noah Cyrus is going to actual prison for a good six months.
As for Demi Lovato's rapist. I'm surprised he's not currently re-surfacing a road somewhere.
All of which brings me onto what I thought was one of the stand-out acts of this year's contest;
At around 17:10 on 19/5/22 (UK date) I'll have to see if my anger can fade over dinner.
