Last night one of my neighbours threw a house party. We were all prepared for this because they took the trouble of putting a note through everyone's door warning us that there would you some mild disruption and begging our patience. You would think that people who took the trouble to do this would also have the sense that once it got to around 1AM/2AM to start winding things down and moving the party indoors to keep the disruption to their neighbours to a minimum.
As the evening wore on I was starting to worry that their party had turned into something of a damp squib because there was absolutely no noise, disruption or any sign of a party taking place. Then at around 1AM I announced - on Twitter - that I was going to bed. Suddenly the party sprang into life with everyone thronging into the garden and setting off fireworks. I'm sure that's the sort of thing a Magistrate would term "malicious intent" whilst fining them for nuisance behaviour.
Anyway despite some serious indigestion I drifted off to sleep about 40 minutes later to the sounds of laughter and frivolity becoming increasingly strained safe in the knowledge that I was the most important thing the lives of everyone at that party. I couldn't even remember their names.
