Today (19/7/12) the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union called a one day strike on Thursday July 26th (26/7/12) in a dispute over plans to cut 8,500 jobs at the passport office. As the PCS represents employees of the UK Border Agency (UKBA) which operate immigration controls at British ports and airports this raises the possibility that the already painfully long queues at London's Heathrow airport could be made even longer the day before the start of the Olympics.
It also forces a difficult choice on the VIP's who will be attending the games. Either they risk missing the start of the games or they risk flying in early and give Britain extra time to bash away at them. Alternatively they might want to look into private planes.
As for the PCS I'm pretty sure a better negotiating position would have been to threaten not to strike unless they're demands were met.
