Today (11/7/12) in the UK the O2 cellphone network has been having problems that prevented users from making or receiving telephone calls or SMS messages. This would explain why my Blackberry's not working however the fact that my other two cellphones of the O2 network are working just fine suggests it's a computer problem rather then a hardware problem. Personally I smell a cyber-attack on the Spanish owned firm. In a similar vein the BBC News website has been unavailable for most of the day.
So seeing as how "The Killings" not on until 22:00 today I might as well take a moment to talk about the announcement in June that the British police are to be given the right to access anyone's telephone, email, Twitter and SMS traffic which will be stored for 12 months as part of the Communications Data Bill or "Snoopers Charter" as it's been dubbed. The main purpose of the announcement was to warn any visitors to the London Olympics that the British government/state will be hacking their telephone calls and emails. The purpose of issuing the warning was to panic visitors into taking counter-measures and in doing so show Britain the extent of their technical capabilities. Mind you today (11/7/12) it has been announced that the cracked M4 route between Heathrow Airport and the Olympic park won't be re-opening tomorrow as planned.
