It's Terrorism Week in the UK.

Yesterday (5/7/12) police arrested six Muslims in London on terrorism offences. Then of course there was the incident on the M6 motorway. Apart from the drama of armed police closing the motorway and army coming in to respond to a chemical warfare attack absolutely nothing happened.

Today (6/7/12) seven people have been arrested on terrorism offences in Yorkshire and the West-Midlands. What appears to have happened is that the police made a routine check on a car travelling on the M1 motorway last Saturday (30/6/12). As the vehicle was found not to have valid insurance it was impounded by the police which is perfectly standard in the UK. What is not standard though is that whilst it was impounded the vehicle was searched and found to contain firearms and other "offensive weapons" which could just mean a stick. This discovery prompted the police to arrest the driver of the vehicle, it's passengers and their families. Although no details of the arrestees have been given based on their location it's fair to assume they're Muslim. Regardless of the truth of the situation I can tell you now the rumour that's going to go around is that the police planted the evidence in the vehicle in order to persecute Muslims. This is just the sort of thing that will raise the tension and encourage any lone-wolf terrorist who was in two minds about attacking the Olympics to go ahead.

Elsewhere a meeting of the Syria Contact Group is going on in Paris, France and it's been co-ordinated with a high-level defection from the Syrian military. Of course this actually demonstrates that there is a high degree of co-ordination between members of the Syrian military who've been accused of human rights abuses and the foreign intelligence agencies that are trying to overthrow the Syrian government. Bet that's not in the Wikileaks emails though.
