Or "Operation Ostrava: Month 14, Week 5, Day 1." if you prefer. However I won't be posting anything about Syria because today (6/5/12) there are so many elections going on in Europe I'm tempted to convene a special poll to decide what to have for dinner.
In France voters will choose between the Socialist Party's Francois Hollande and the UMP's Nicolas Sarkozy in a Presidential run-off that seems too close to call.
In Greece they will be holding a Parliamentary vote that will likely see all of the party's contesting the election win roughly the same number of seats leading to weeks of tense wrangling over the formation of a ramshackle coalition. Actually thinking about it it might have been easier to stick with the government of national unity brought about by the European Union (EU) bailout.
In Armenia they will also be holding a Parliamentary vote that will most likely see the Republican Party and the Prosperous Armenia Party retain their status as the two largest party's and form a coalition government. Really all they're hoping for is no repeat of the violence that followed the 2008 election which saw 10 people killed.
In Serbia they will be holding a Presidential election, a Parliamentary election and local elections. The Presidential race is too close to call with both the incumbent Democratic Party's (DS) Boris Tadic and the Serb nationalist Serbian Progressive Party's (SNS) Tomislav Nikolic polling roughly 36% of the vote. The Parliamentary race looks unlikely to produce a clear winner with either current poll leaders the SNS or the DS having to form a coalition with the Socialist Party. Whatever the result violence is expected in Kosovo with over 700 NATO peacekeepers being put on stand-by. Not bad for a war that was supposed to have ended 12 years ago.
So yeah, while I've probably got more reasons then most to hate him if I could vote in the French election even I'd be voting for Nicolas Sarkozy. Isn't pragmatism wonderful.
