It is being reported that in response to today's (2/5/12) violence Egypt's interim military administration is considering ceding power following the May 24th Presidential election in just over three weeks time. If that happens you can pretty much kiss the country goodbye because the Egyptian people have clearly not got the hang of democracy yet. For example in a democracy if a candidate you don't like stands for president you don't need to riot through the streets calling on the military to ban them from the election. Instead you simply don't vote for them.
The fact that the Egyptian people are still learning about things like this means to my mind there can be no suggestion of the military stepping down until 2013 at the earliest. It's just a shame there is a lot of foreign influence in the country whipping people up into a frenzy to do away with the military as if that's somehow going to solve their problems.
