Care Homes, Caravans and Commandos.

Today (11/7/12) in Britain the government has published a white paper on care home costs, four Dale Farm style travellers have been convicted in the slavery case that broke on September 10th last year (10/9/11) and a further 3,500 soldiers have been called up to help guard the Olympics. Believe it or not these three events are all connected.

The white paper on care home costs is almost completely pointless. It is simply the government saying that first it's going on summer recess. Then when it returns in the autumn it will start a lengthy consultation process. Then once that process ends they may consider doing something about the issue but we will probably have a different government by then. However the white paper did include proposals that would allow for people in care homes to defer selling their homes to fund their care costs until after their deaths. This was the government/state hinting that they may be prepared to delay forcing the sale of my grandmother's home to pay for her care costs. The reason why the government/state is suddenly prepared to make this concession is because they know full well that due to the provable criminal malpractice on the part of my grandmother's doctor, the local health authority and a high court judge my grandmother is under no legal obligation to meet her care costs. Not only that but criminal prosecutions of the above will have to be mounted. If the British government/state fails to meet it's obligation to prosecute the matter could be referred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) which may well issue arrest warrants including against the head of state for the initial failure to prosecute.

Of course as the cases of Sudan's President Bashir and Saif al-Islam Qaddafi in Libya demonstrate once an ICC arrest warrant has been issued the next problem is executing that warrant. To discourage the issuing of a warrant Britain has decided to turn the Olympics into a show of military force with some 12,000 troops on the streets and anti-aircraft missiles on the roofs of residential apartment blocks. The idea being to show how much of a fight someone should expect should they attempt to execute an ICC warrant. The fact that Britain has called up a further 3,500 troops bringing the total to 15,500 seems to be their way of indicating that they now think the coming fight will be much tougher then they previously expected.

Also today Kofi Annan is briefing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the situation in Syria for what could well be the last time before the UN observer mission ends at the end of the month. If you combine the Dale Farm eviction with the al-Houla massacre and my little situation the serious allegations against Britain are really starting to mount up. No wonder they're desperate for a reaction.
