The Rachel Corrie is Still at Sea

After being brought for 70,000 euros and breaking down in Malta the flagship of the Free Gaza convoy is still on route to Gaza. After meeting up with the USA operated yacht Challenger 1 it is expected to dock in Gaza in the early hours (GMT) of Sunday June 6th.

Israel has now released those on board the other ships in the flotilla and they are begining to return home. Although they are free the Israelis have not released any of their possessions. This includes their money and clothes. In light of the Dubai assassination the Israelis are worryingly also holding to all the activists identity documents including passports and driving licenses. Most significantly the Israelis are also keeping possession of all the activists video cameras, mobile phones and other recording equipment. This is alarming because a lot of the freed activists are claiming that the Israeli Navy opened fire on the ships before their commandos attempted to board it. It would be useful if the activists had photographic evidence to support this claim.

In related news the two demonstrations that were planned for tomorrow afternoon in London have now been merged into one although it still looks like two marches to me. The march will assemble in Downing Street at 13:30 and move off around 14:00. It will then follow the standard Hyde Park to Parliament Square route only in reverse. That means it will move up Whitehall to Trafalgar Square. It will then move up Cockspur Street, Pall Mall and Piccadilly to Hyde Park Corner. The second part of the march will then follow Knightsbridge to the Israeli Embassy.

That is one hell of a long walk so if I was going I'd be tempted to join up with it at Hyde Park.
