Germany Go Through

They've just spanked Argentina 4-0.

With both teams enjoying long and illustrious histories is the World Cup this match was supposed to be a clash of the titans. The rigid and disciplined Germans up against the Argentinians playing a stylish and attacking dribbling game inspired by their legendary manager Deigo Maradona.

As it turned out the Germans totally dominated the first five minutes of the game. On the 3rd minute they took the lead after a Schweinsteiger looped a free kick from the corner of the penalty area onto the head of Muller. With a little help from a goal keeping error he put the ball in the net and Germany went 1-0 up. This allowed the Germans to sit back and let their defence control Argentina's attacks. Argentina managed to get the ball in the net after about 30 mins but it was rightly disallowed due to at least four Argentinians being in off side positions.

That brought out the frustrations of the Argentinians and they spent most of the second half on the offensive putting the Germans under pressure but lacked the co-ordination to convert the pressure into a goal. Just when it looked as though an Argentinian equaliser was inevitable Poldoski drove into Argentina's penalty box and picked out a perfect pass to Klose who was left to tap into the empty net putting Germany 2-0 ahead on the 67th minute. Then in the 74th minute Schweinsteiger went on a great run through the Argentine box, cut the ball back into a crowd of players and Freidrich got to the ball first putting it in the net for a messy goal. Germany 3-0. By this point the Argentinians were just waiting for the match to end and Klose took full advantage slotting in Germany's 4th on 89 minutes. I believe that goal puts him level as Germany's highest ever international goal scorer.

Germany now go on to play the winners of tonight's Paraguay V Spain.
