Horn of Africa Famine.

Today (3/7/11) the British Baroness, Valerie Amos has used her role as the United Nations Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs to call on all nations, especially America, to contribute aid money to help the estimated 3.2 million people who are threatened by famine in the Horn of Africa.

Britain has responded by pledging £38million (US$61million). This is no great surprise because three of the affected countries, Uganda, Kenya and Somalia have all been major recipients of UK aid over the years. It's a shame really that the majority of this money went to securing the illegal flow of minerals out of the Democratic Republic on Congo. I'm surprised that Britain actually have the bare faced cheek to go with the US with this while the Libya thing is still going on but I guess Obama's women are just seen as a soft touch now.
