After leaving his job with the Royal Marine Commando's Paddy, now Lord, Ashdown was recruited by MI6. They helped him get elected as an MP and on to all those MP's fact finding missions. The LibDems then elected him as leader and the UN put him in charge of Kosovo so I'm sorry if this is news to you but I only know it because I've heard a similar story before.
Incidentally Lord Ashdown was on the BBC's AM politics show this morning. I was all set up to watch but unfortunately about 06:00 the henhouse started hammering and shouting on their own windows. Sadly the poor girls know nothing about acoustics but I think we're going to have to set up an exclusion zone none the less.
