The British Prime Minister David Cameron is currently on a trade tour of south-east Asia. Yesterday (10/4/12) he was in Japan and today (11/4/12) he moved on to Indonesia.
Mid-way though his visit at around 08:40GMT/13:40 local an 8.6 magnitude struck 6 miles off the coast of Indonesia. As this is of similar magnitude to the earthquake that did so much damage across the Indian Ocean in 2004 it immediately triggered tsunami warnings and panic. As we are now (11:35GMT) three hours after the 'quake it is likely that if a tsunami had been generated it would have struck ground by now. There have though been significant aftershocks so the tsunami warnings are still in place.
