After attending the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Syria senior British Foreign Minister William Hague is today (2/2/12) making a surprise visit to Somalia. This comes ahead of a London hosted summit which hopes will unite the world behind a British humanitarian intervention in Somalia. It is worth noting that he who controls the areas of northern Somalia between the Adwal province and the Bari province commonly known as Somaliland controls the Gulf of Aden and therefore the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
This is the problem the UNSC have with Syria because if they endorse foreign intervention there it will be the thin end of the wedge. In fact the resolution 1973 on Libya was probably already a step too far.
