The 2022 Winter Olympics Closing Ceremony. Pt.1

Sunday February 20th 2022 (20/2/22) saw the end of the 2022 Winter Olympics. Held in Beijing, China.

As is International Olympic Committee (IOC) protocol. The last event of the Olympics was a Closing Ceremony.

However, if you believe in parity between the Olympics and the Para-Olympics.

Then this did not mark the end of the 2022 Winter Games. Merely the start of a short intermission before the 2022 Winter Para-Olympics. Also held in Beijing, China.

Lantern Festival.

The 2022 Winter games mark the end of a nearly decade long stay for the Olympics and Para-Olympics in Asia.

This began with the 2018 Winter games held in PyeongChang, Republic of Korea (RoK/South). Then continued with the delayed 2020 Summer games. Held in Tokyo, Japan.

So at their games the South Koreans decided to introduce us to, not only, aspects of Korean culture. But also things which are common throughout Asia.

Such as the melting pot of numerous philosophies, handed down through the oral tradition, which make up traditional Asian Animist belief systems or religions. Starting with the Wu Xing. The five essential elements which make up everything in the Universe.

The South Koreans also introduced the concept of Child-Like Ciphers. Children used as guides to allow us to access and decode the stories of the ceremonies.

This served to highlight US-led NATO's inferiority in Cryptography/Encryption, really all forms of modern military intelligence. Particularly when compared to the Quantum Cryptography/Encryption of China's Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS) satellite. Launched in 2016.

An inferiority which is, obviously, quite worrying. If, like South Korea and Japan, you are militarily allied with the US and NATO against China. Although, obviously, a lot less worrying if you are China.

So China's Olympic Closing Ceremony began with Child-Like Ciphers. Chinese children, so adorable you'd think they'd inspire Chinese adults to go and make more of them. Walking around the arena floor, carrying lanterns.

This was a reference to a section in the Opening Ceremony. Which I entitled; "Those Damned Doves." This saw equally adorable Chinese children walking around the arena floor, carrying illuminated 'doves' on sticks.

Fulfilling the piece of IOC protocol that each Opening Ceremony must include a section featuring doves, an international symbol of peace. In reference to the Olympic Truce and the IOC's belief that it is an organisation of peace and tolerance.

Carried as if floating in the air. These 'doves' were supposed to resemble Tiandeng (Sky Lanterns). Traditional Chinese lanterns in which a candle is sealed inside a paper bag. So the heated air allows it to float like a balloon.

This was a reference to US Tech companies Meta/Facebook and Google's efforts to bring Internet access to remote areas. Using drones as Internet antenna Meta/Facebook's program is known as; "Aquila." While using balloons as Internet antenna Google's program is known as; "Loon."

Both are inferior to Elon Musk's Starlink program. Which uses satellites as Internet antenna.

However all three are inferior to China's QUESS satellite.

On May 8th 2021 (8/5/21) the US brought Elon Musk and Miley Cyrus together on the TV show; "Saturday Night Live (SNL).

The only reason for doing this would be to introduce Miley Cyrus to Elon Musk. So myself, Elon Musk and Miley Cyrus to work together. To give the US a chance of catching up with China. Or, at least, give them a chance to catch up to the Child-Like Ciphers.

Unfortunately the US couldn't even manage to get that one, little, thing right. I think even China feels sorry for them, how desperately far behind they are now.

Amid the English speaking world the music played as the children walked around the arena floor would have reminded people of the nursery rhyme; "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." However what it reminded you of very much depends on where you are from in the World.

The tune in actually used in two other English nursery rhymes; "Baa Baa Black Sheep" and "Alphabet Song." It's used in at least four other nursery rhymes in four different languages along with German and Hungarian Christmas Carols. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart alone did twelve different versions of it.

Through their games South Korea looked at things which are common throughout Asia. Japan built on this idea by looking at things which are common throughout the World.

Things like Aristotle and Plato's concept of Heartstrings. Which started in one place. Then travelled between and were adopted by different cultures.

Along with things like the colour purple being associated with wealth and power. Which appeared spontaneously in different, unconnected cultures.

During the Opening Ceremony. In a section I entitled; "Champions Of Tomorrow." China looked at another simple tune which is common throughout the World. Known in China as the nursery rhyme; "Liang Zhi Lao Hu (Two Tigers)" but elsewhere as the nursery rhyme; "Frere Jacques (Brother John)."

That tune is an example of something which has spontaneously appeared in many different, unconnected cultures.

However the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle Little star is something which appeared in one place. Then travelled between and was adopted by different cultures.

There is an original, definitive version. The French nursery rhyme; "Ah! vous dirai-je, maman! (Oh! Shall I Tell You Mama!)." It's a simple song about a petulant little girl complaining to her mother with the lyrics;

Oh! Shall I tell you, Mama,
What is causing my torment?
Daddy wants me to reason
Like a big, big person,
But I say that candies,
Are worth more than the reason!

It's a mockery of the much longer, more adult anonymous French love poem; "La Confidence Naive (The Naive Confidence)." The childish complaint of young woman who is heartbroken by a young man who tricked her into believing he loved her.

So widespread is the influence of Ah! vous dirai-je, maman! It seems to be the inspiration for the song; "What Have They Done To My Song, Ma." By US folk singer Melanie (Safka).

Based on the only time I've listened to this song, whilst drunk. It seems to be the emerging American Hippy counter-culture mocking the established mainstream culture. During the time of President Richard Nixon and the US' Vietnam War.

At around 17:40 on 25/8/22 (UK date) I'll have to pick this up later.

Edited at around 16:50 on 29/8/22 (UK date) to tidy the above and copy & paste;

A young woman moves to the big city, losing her virginity. Much to the upset of her Bible reading mother. Finally she has an abortion. An aspiration, apparently.

It encapsulates much of the Culture Wars that have divided America ever since. Particularly the division caused by the Roe v Wade (1973) abortion ruling.

Many people have covered What Have They Done To My Song, Ma. Including Miley Cyrus. Whose version was used over the closing credits for the 2014 film; "Free The Nipple."

Free The Nipple is the directorial debut of Lina Esco. Who also produced the film.

Lina Esco is probably most widely known for playing the bisexual Christina "Chris" Alonso character of the current US TV show; "S.W.A.T."

In this role she introduced the term; "Thrupple" - a Three Person Couple - into the public consciousness. When her character became part of a Thrupple with a man and his bisexual girlfriend.

This is a topic which seems to have been of long-term interest to S.W.A.T's Executive Producer, Shawn Ryan. Who was also the Executive Producer of the similar US TV show; "The Unit."

The 2007 episode of The Unit, "Two Coins" features the Sgt Grey character falling in love with a Jewish female soldier in the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). A reference to a Thrupple I was involved in with a bisexual Israeli Jewish woman and her Black, British girlfriend.

Lina Esco is herself bisexual. Aside from introducing the term Thrupple S.W.A.T also started the rumour that Lina Esco has a massive crush on the supposedly bisexual Miley Cyrus. A result of their work together on the 2012 movie; "LOL." Alongside Demi Moore.

So it was S.W.A.T which really pitched the idea of; "The Fantasy Thrupple." Myself, Miley Cyrus and Lina Esco.

Unfortunately my relationship with Miley Cyrus was immediately hijacked by the US/UK. Who prevented us from talking to each other directly. Something which is essential for us to talk about anything, let alone talk to anyone else.

The real reason why the US/UK wouldn't let Miley Cyrus and I talk to each other directly. Is they wanted to 'prove' that I was suffering from Erotomania or; "de Clerambault's Syndrome." The delusional belief that I have a relationship with Miley Cyrus, who hides secret messages for me in her Instagram/Social Media posts.

This would allow the UK to detain me under Mental Health laws. Effectively imprisoning me for the rest of my life. Without them having to go through the formality of identifying a crime I've committed or putting me on trial.

This is A Really Common Tactic Of Totalitarian China.

China have even invented a unique mental disorder, similar to Erotomania. Political Monomania.

People with Political Monomania suffer from obsessional delusions. Such as that local officials shouldn't be corrupt. Or that they should be allowed to choose their governments through elections.

Common symptoms of Political Monomania include the chanting of or carrying placards with political slogans. Or assembling together in large groups to march.

People diagnosed with Political Monomania are then confined to police-run "Ankang" hospitals, often for the rest of their lives. Without the police having to go through the formality of identifying a crime they've committed or holding a trial.

Obviously even the US/UK understood that they couldn't say out loud. That they were using tactics so Totalitarian even China, officially, abandoned them in 2012.

So instead. The US/UK claimed that Miley Cyrus and I couldn't talk to each other directly. Using electronic communications, such as Instagram Direct Messages.

As that would be a secret. So no-one would be able see as the mysteries of Miley Cyrus' sexuality and both of the Thrupples I've been part of were revealed.

Highlighting just how far behind the Child-Like Ciphers the US/UK and, by extension NATO, are. When they first claimed that, they genuinely believed it!

However in the months leading up to the delayed 2020 Tokyo games. Whilst waiting for Miley Cyrus to develop basic conversational skills.

I used the opportunity to teach all the people, for whom it really wasn't a secret, about the Cavalletti method of horse training. The one pioneered by Reiner Klimke, winner of Mens Gold in Dressage at the 1964 Summer games. Held in Tokyo, Japan.

During the delayed 2020 Summer games. Whilst still waiting for Miley Cyrus to develop basic conversational skills.

I used the opportunity to teach people about Japan's complex, pictographic language. Including the System of Kanji Indexing by Pattern (SKIP). Which is used as an alternative to an alphabet.

Of the more than 2,800 characters or pictograms which make up written Japanese. 1,945 of them are shared with written Chinese. The Joyo Kanji. Although not all of them have the same meaning in Japanese and Chinese.

One character which is shared and has the same meaning in Japanese and Chinese is; "Ma." Literally it means; "Vacancy" or; "Void."

However it is often used to refer to subtext. The inference. The notes-between-the-notes, the lines-between-the-lines.

It is also used to refer to Marijuana. The pictogram is a cloud of smoke blanketing or resting over some trees. Betraying an ancient understanding of what that particular plant does.

So the theme music for the 2020 Summer Games was very much the traditional Irish song; "I'll Tell My Ma." The version by The Dubliners being probably the most famous of the many, many versions.

The chorus of the song is about how this girl will get herself a boyfriend; "by-and-by." Meaning; "Soon enough." However it's pronounced exactly the same as; "Bi" as in; "Bisexual."

On one level it's a song about girls skipping, playing jump-rope, in the street. All the attention they're (trying to) get from the boys.

On another level it's about what all those boys do to prove themselves worthy of the girl's attention. Boxing.

The song UK Para-Olympic broadcaster, Channel 4, used to promote their 2020 Summer Games coverage. Was a version of; "So You Wanna Be A Boxer" from the 1976 US musical; "Bugsy Malone."

Expressing their desire of how the games would go for me. Getting all torn apart amid the pressure of the competition.

However Channel 4 were forced to scrap their entire campaign. After the Japanese sponsor Toyota pointed out to them. That; "Boxer" is a Colonial-era term of racist abuse for an Asian person. Particularly a Chinese person.

Something which China expanded on in its Olympic Opening Ceremony.

The 1899 Rebellion of the United Righteous and Harmonious Fists (Yiheguan). Known, dismissively, to the Colonialists as; "The Boxer Rebellion."

Its end in 1901, with the imposition on China of the; "Boxer Protocol."  Considered by China as one of the; "Unequal Treaties."

I'll Tell My Ma became even more of a theme song. When the US/UK finally realised. That not only wouldn't Miley Cyrus and I talking to each other, directly, be a secret.

A very large number of people were laughing at the US/UK. Over their belief that it would be a secret.

So they just rung the bell and quit. Locking me out of Instagram and denying me any contact with Miley Cyrus. The Great American Bell Ringing of October 2021.

Something which denied many of you a tutorial on Fibre Optic Communications.

While leaving Miley Cyrus with nothing but her dogs and (human) crooks.

At around 17:10 on 29/8/22 (UK date) I'll pick this up tomorrow.

Edited at around 17:40 on 30/8/22 (UK date) to tidy the above and copy & paste;

Mozart's "Twelve Variations On Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman!" is particularly interesting here.

As the name suggests. It is simply 12 variations on the very simple tune. Each with its own tone or, if you like, accent. I find number 4 to be particularly petulant. Like a toddler stomping their foot.

As with Japanese. Written Chinese and spoken Chinese are two entirely different things. As if having to memorise an alphabet of more than 1,900 characters wasn't difficult enough.

Each of those characters can mean more than one word. For example the character with the smoke resting over the trees; "Ma." That can mean; "Vacancy." It can mean; "Void." Or it can mean; "Marijuana."

Spoken Chinese is a Tonal Language. So what word a character means is defined by the very specific tone used to pronounce it. There are four tones;

Yinping (Dark Level).

Yangping (Light Level).

Shang (Rising).

Qu (Departing).

As was brought up during the Opening Ceremony. China is a vast, geographically and culturally diverse country. Really 100 different nations. United by the Qin Dynasty, China's first Imperial Dynasty, at the end of the Zhango Shindai (Warring States) in 221 BC.

Across this geographically and culturally vast area you have a wide array of regional dialects and accents. As you do in many countries.

What we typically think of as Chinese; "Mandarin." That's actually a Portuguese word, with its roots in Sanskrit, meaning; "Minister" or; "Counsellor." It refers to the Beijing dialect or accent used in official circles. Similar to the Received Pronunciation of; "The Queen's English."

Having a vast array of regional accents and dialects in a tonal language. Is an absolute recipe for chaos.

In Britain a common example of a regional accent is the word; "Bath."

Some people think this should be pronounced with a long a; "B-aaaath."

While others think it should be pronounced with a short, sharp a; "B-ah-th."

However regardless of the pronunciation used everyone can still understand the meaning.

In spoken Chinese this type of difference in pronunciation not only changes the meaning of the word. It changes the word itself.

If someone suddenly announced they were going upstairs to run a cabbage. You would assume they have lost their minds or are suffering from some sort of Stroke.

Following the Toilsome Pig (Xinhai) Revolution of 1911. The newly formed Republic of China quickly discovered that most Chinese people couldn't actually understand each other.

So, in 1912, they established a national commission to standardise the language. The Commission on the Unification of Pronunciation (Duyin Tongyi Hui).

Highlighting what a problem it is, having a range of regional dialects in a tonal language. This conference quickly turned out to be incredibly bad tempered.

As a member of, say, the Beijing delegation would say something completely innocent in their accent such as; "Hello. Good morning. How are you today?"

While a delegate from, say, Qinghai would hear that they should go kill their father. As their mother enjoys sexual relations with pigs.

It took until 1932 for the commission to agree on a standard form of Chinese, using the Beijing dialect. Standard Chinese or Mandarin.

Officially this is because the pronunciation used by the metropolitan elite was seen as more prestigous and sophisticated. Although, it's possible, that all the other delegates were simply too offended to keep on arguing with the Beijing delegation.

The problems Chinese people have being understood by each other. Is nothing compared to the trouble they have trying to be understood by people who don't use pictographic languages. So, really, everyone except for the Japanese.

Having established the People's Republic of China, following the Chinese Civil War (1927-1949). The Chinese Communist Party tasked a group of linguists, led by Zhou Youguang. To devise a system or cipher to code/decode Standard Chinese into the Latin or English alphabet.

Adopted in 1958 the result was Hanyu Pinyin or simply Pinyin.

This is what I've been trying to use in my coverage, when giving the Chinese terms. Although even the tone marks in Pinyin are still too complicated for my standard English keyboard.

Honestly I think any Chinese readers are reading this perfectly well in English. Then attempting to infer from context what on Earth I mean with my attempts at Pinyin.

At around 18:00 on 30/8/22 (UK date) I'll pick this up tomorrow.

Edited at around 17:00 on 1/9/22 (UK date) to copy & paste;

As it was during the Opening Ceremony. The arena floor was the World's largest LED screen. Made up of 40,000 LED modules, stretching over 10,552msq (113,580ftsq). Covered by a protective screen.

During this sequence that World's largest TV screen was used to show Snowflakes. The main motif of these games.

The Olympic Cauldron was a giant Snowflake. Itself made up of 91 individual Snowflakes, each bearing the name of a competing nation. In both English/Latin characters and Chinese characters.

Performed during the "Those Damned Doves" section of the Opening Ceremony. The official anthem of the 2022 games was; "Snowflake."

All expressing the desire for nations to join together like thousands of snowflakes in a sense of openness and family peace. Both at the games and beyond.

Unlike the Tiandeng (Sky Lanterns) carried by the children in the Opening Ceremony. These Child-Like Ciphers were carrying simple Dengiong (Paper Lanterns). A candle placed inside an open paper frame which are supposed to be hung or carried. Rather than float like balloons.

Those Paper Lanterns were decorated with images of Snowflakes.

Paper Lanterns seemed to adorn the entire arena. All the lighting for all the rows of seating in the arena was provided in the style of Paper Lanterns. All in the colour red, symbolising prosperity and good fortune.

This was all done in reference to The Shangyuan Jie (Lantern Festival).

The 2022 Opening Ceremony took place on February 4th. As was explained in the Opening Animation Video. This marks the first day of the first of the 24 solar terms of China's Lunisolar Traditional Calendar. Chinese New Year's Day.

This is the big national holiday in China. Equivalent to Christmas in Christian countries or Eid al-Fitr in Muslim countries.

The holiday begins on New Year's Day then ends with the Lantern Festival. Which occurs on the 15th day of the first Lunisolar month.

Having used the Opening Ceremony to celebrate New Year's Day. China was using the Closing Ceremony to celebrate the Lantern Festival.

Although, due to the Olympics lasting for 16 days, they were a little late. The Lantern Festival actually took place on February 15th (15/2/22), during the games.

Abrahamic religions like Christianity and Islam are codified, written down in a single book.

So I can definitively say that Christmas Day celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. A prophet in Islam and the Son of God in Christainity. Likewise I can definitively say that Eid al-Fitr celebrates the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Asian Animist beliefs however are not codified. Being made up of a shifting melting pot of philosophies and legends handed down in the oral, mythological tradition.

As a result there is no definitive answer as to what the Lantern Festival celebrates.

Within Taoism the 15th day of the first Lunisolar month is considered the birthday of the god Tianguan.

Tianguan is the god of good fortune. So Taoists believe they will be rewarded with good fortune. If Tianguan sees them honouring and celebrating Tianguan's birthday. As Tianguan looks down on Earth from the Heavens. Through the Zeta Tauri star within the Taurus constellation.

Within Buddhism the 15th day of the first Lunisolar month is considered Uposatha. A day dedicated to cleansing the defiled mind by intensifying Buddhist practices such meditation and recommitting to the either 5,8 or 10 Precepts of Buddhism.

During this big day of collective meditation and study Buddhist monks in China would light their temples with Dengiong. The only way to do so in the 1st Century AD.

Emperor Ming, the Second Emperor of the Han Dynasty was a Buddhist. He was keen to spread Buddhism throughout China. So he thought encouraging people to hang pretty lanterns late into the night on Uposatha, as Buddhist temples did. Would encourage Chinese people to adopt other aspects of Buddhism.

In the Opening Ceremony, during the fireworks which marked the end of the Opening Speeches and the official opening of the games. We were introduced to The Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors.

That is there is a Supreme God of High Heaven (Taiyi). They look down on this earthly dimension though the Heaven's Gate or Swastika. The apparent movement of the Chariot constellation (The Plough/Big Dipper) around the North Star.

The Supreme God of High Heaven communicates with this dimension through the Five Deities (Wudi) or Five Gods (Wushen). The five planets that make up the Wu Xing; Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Mars, Venus.

To further aid humans the Supreme God of High Heaven and the Five Gods sent three demigods and five sages to give them essential skills and knowledge. The Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors.

The Jade Emperor (Yu Di) was sent to teach humans the skill of Felicity. The ability to properly express one's thoughts. Essential for happiness. Something the Supreme God of High Heaven does through heavenly ornaments and lights; the Five Gods, planets and stars.

However the Jade Emperor became frustrated that as a mere sage he could not do enough to ease the suffering of humans. So the Jade Emperor retreated to a cave to meditate to increase his mastery of the order of the universe (Tao/Dao) and ascend to the level of god/demigod. A process that is said to have lasted for 960 million years.

While the Jade Emperor was attempting to master Tao/Dao. An evil force emerged on Earth with the intention to impose its will on all of dimensions of the Universe, forcing its image upon them. I believe that in modern China this evil, monolithic force is known as the girl Jiaozhi.

By the time Jade Emperor emerged from his cave the girl Jiaozhi's attempts to conquer heaven were already underway. Seeing the evil glow emerging from the Heaven's Gate the Jade Emperor returned to the Heavens where he was able to defeat the evil girl Jiaozhi.

As reward the gods, immortals and humans declared the Jade Emperor to be the Supreme Sovereign. Forcing him to remain in Heaven, taking over the duties of the Supreme God of High Heaven.

Ruling Heaven and Earth kept the Jade Emperor so busy that he was unable to visit Earth. He particularly missed Earth's animals, even starting to forget what they looked like.

So the Jade Emperor decided to invite Earth's animals to visit him in Heaven.

Not wanting to miss the chance to visit the Jade Emperor in Heaven. The Cat asked the Rat to wake him up on the day of the trip.

However the Cat was considered the most beautiful of Earth's animals. So worried that he would look ugly in comparison the Rat chose not to wake the Cat up.

The Cat has never forgiven the Rat for cheating him out of his chance to visit the Jade Emperor in Heaven. Which is why Cats and Rats remain mortal enemies to this day.

The Cat's anger is understandable. When they visited him in Heaven the Jade Emperor was so impressed by the beauty of all Earth's animals he decided to name the months after each of them.

The Twelve Earthly Branches which, alongside the Ten Heavenly Stems make up the sexagenary cycle of the Traditional Chinese Calendar.

Rat made sure that he came first. While the poor Cat had his place taken by Pig.

At around 17:30 on 1/9/22 (UK date) I'll try and pick this up after dinner.

Edited at around 19:10 on 1/9/22 (UK date) to quickly tidy the above and copy & paste;

The Jade Emperor was so impressed by Earth's animals that he then let them come and go from Heaven as they pleased.

One day a Crane he was particularly fond of visited Earth. Only to be killed by villagers.

The Jade Emperor was so enraged that he decided to send a Dragon to destroy the village with fire as punishment. On the 15th day of the first Lunisolar month.

Luckily for the villagers the Jade Emperor's daughter, Zhinu, was a weaver. Each day she would use a magical cloak of she had made to travel between Heaven and Earth to bathe. Zhinu decided to warn the villagers of her father's plan.

A Wiseman from another village then suggested. That the villagers hang lanterns from their houses, light bonfires and throw firecrackers in the streets on the 14th, 15th and 16th nights of the first Lunisolar month.

In order to make it look as though the village was on fire. Tricking the Dragon into thinking the village had already been destroyed.

This trick worked. The Dragon reported back to the Jade Emperor that the village had been destroyed and the village was spared.

So the villagers decided to mark their victory over the Jade Emperor and the survival of their village. By hanging lanterns, lighting bonfires and setting off firecrackers on the 15th day of the first Lunisolar month every year.

That story is perhaps the inspiration for the legend of Lan Moon, who is said to have led a successful rebellion against a tyrannical King. He was killed in the storming of the King's city, on the 15th day of the first Lunisolar month. His supporters honour his sacrifice every year.

Amongst people who don't believe that the Jade Emperor went on to be the Supreme Sovereign. Then it is believed that the God of High Heaven still commands Heaven and the Earth.

At his disposal the Supreme God of High Heaven has 16 Dragons.

He can use those Dragons to give good weather, prosperity and good fortune to the people of Earth. Or he can use them to inflict droughts, storms, famine, pestilence and all round misery on the people of Earth.

Therefore China's first Emperor, Emperor Qin Shi Huang, decided that it would be a good idea to start each new year by honouring the Supreme God of High Heaven. On the 15th day of the first Lunisolar month.

So the Surpreme God of High Heaven would choose to send good fortune and prosperity rather than famine and misery in the coming year.

At around 19:40 on 1/9/22 (UK date) I'm not sure when I'll be able to pick this up again.

Edited around around 19:55 on 8/9/22 (UK date) to copy & paste;

Then there is The Tale of Dongfang Shuo and Yuan-Xiao.

As we learned during the Opening Ceremony. The Qin Dynasty was the first of the Chinese Imperial Dynasties. Uniting over 100 disparate nations as China. At the end of the Zhango Shindai (Warring States Period) in 221 BC.

The Qin Dynasty was replaced by the Han Dynasty in 202 BC. The Han Dynasty is probably one of the most important of the Chinese Imperial Dynasties. The largest of China's ethnic groups, officially recognised or not, is the Han Chinese. Named in honour of Han Dynasty.

Probably the most important Emperor of the Han Dynasty is the seventh. Emperor Wu of Han or Emperor Wu the Filial (156-87BC). His 54 year reign set a record which was not broken until the Kangxi Emperor in the 17th Century AD.

It was Emperor Wu who really established China as what we recognise it as today. Defeating the Xiongnu to conquer out to Xianjiang in the west and to Mongolia in the north. Emperor Wu also extended China to the Korean Peninsula in the east and what is now Vietnam in the south.

Through his conquest of Xianjiang it was really Emperor Wu who first established the Silk Road. The vast trade route on which everything travelled for the best part of 2,000 years. It was also Emperor Wu who moved China away from Taoism and Buddhism. Adopting Confucianism as the national philosophy.

Another of Emperor Wu's key reforms was opening up his court to talented people from everyday life. Which is how Dongfang Shuo became one of his advisers.

Some people believe that Dongfang Shuo is but one incarnation of one of the Five Gods. Either Jupiter or Venus, depending on who you ask.

Whatever its origins the incarnation of Dongfang Shuo certainly had a wicked sense of humour. Known by the affectionate nickname Huaji (Buffon) Dongfang Shuo is remembered more as a practical joker and jester than for any of his other roles as courtier.

The most widely known of the stories about Dongfang Shuo all involve him playing some prank or another. Normally at Emperor Wu's expense.

It's said that one day Dongfang Shuo was walking through the gardens of the Imperial Palace when he heard a young woman weeping. Approaching he found the maid, Yuan-Xiao about to commit suicide by throwing herself into a well.

The reason for Yuan-Xiao's sorrow was that the Imperial household were working her so hard. That she was unable to visit her parents, fulfilling her duty of Filial Piety or Ancestor Veneration.

That key Asian philosophy that your first duty is to honour your parents, both in life and death. Represented in written Chinese by the character; "Xiao." In which the character "Lao" (Old) is literally carried by the character; "Zi" (Son). Establishing the patriarchal system which is key to Confucianism.

In order to ease Yuan-Xiao's suffering. Dongfang Shuo dreamt up a prank in order to trick Emperor Wu into giving her a day off.

Outside the walls of the Imperial Palace Dongfang Shuo set up a fortune-telling stall. With Dongfang Shuo being such a well respected fortune-teller people immediately flocked to it.

However rather than telling them their fortune. Dongfang Shuo told everyone the same fortune. That the city would be destroyed in a huge fire. On the 15th day of the first Lunisolar month.

Panicked people asked Dongfang Shuo what they should do to prevent this fire. He replied that on the 13th night the God of Fire (Zhurong) would send a red fairy riding a black horse. Everyone should then beg that fairy for mercy.

On the 13th night Dongfang Shuo got Yuan-Xiao to dress up as a red fairy, riding a black horse. When everyone crowded to beg mercy the 'red fairy' handed them a decree from the God of Fire to take to Emperor Wu. Confirming that the city would be destroyed on the 15th day of the first Lunisolar month.

Alarmed Emperor Wu then asked Dongfang Shuo what to do. Dongfang Shuo replied that the God of Fire really liked Tangyuan, a type of sweet dumpling. So on the 15th day Yuan-Xiao should be given the special task of making Tangyuan.

Everyone else in the city should hang lanterns from their homes. Then go out into the streets carrying lanterns and exploding firecrackers as they visited their loved ones.

This allowed Yuan-Xiao's parents to visit her at the Imperial Palace where she had the relatively easy job of making Tangyuan. Allowing her to venerate her ancestors while becoming highly valued within the Imperial household. As the woman who saved the city.

So Dongfang Shuo invented almost a Chinese version of Mother's Day. It was the Mother's Day episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL) which brought Miley Cyrus and Elon Musk together.

Whichever Lantern Festival story you believe. They all seem to involve a lot of trickery. Even Emperor Ming's efforts to encourage Buddhism or the Taoist's efforts to make Tianguan feel valued.

So not only do people hang lanterns from their homes during the Lantern Festival. They also go out into the streets carrying lanterns. To visit homes and meet people in the street. As the Child-Like Ciphers were shown doing here.

The difference is that those lanterns don't carry images like snowflakes. Instead the lanterns are adorned with riddles. When you meet new people you ask them to solve your riddle and you're asked to solve their's.

If you can't solve the riddle then you receive a punishment. Like the sound of a firecracker being exploded near you. If you can solve the riddle then you are given a reward.

This reward can be something educational and improving. Such as one of the Four Treasures of the Study (Wen Fang Si Bao; Bi, Mo, Zhi, Yan). Inkbrush, Ink, Paper, Inkstone. Things which help little people learn to reason like big people.

The little people though are much happier when they receive fun, sweet things. Like Tangyuan or candies.

The Lantern Festival is also a big time for match-making. Choosing who goes out in the streets together and who they might meet.

As was discussed during the Opening Ceremony. Having abandoned its famous One Child Policy in favour of a; "Please! Have Some Children." Policy.

China Wants Grand-Babies!

This handing out of tricks and treats, even the match-making. Means that the Lantern Festival very much resembles the western festival of Halloween.

Halloween is really a Christian appropriation of the European Animist (Celtic) festival of Samhain.

The Chinese invented paper in the 1st Century AD. Using ingredients imported from India via the Silk Road they were able to invent India Ink at around the same time. Having used inksticks since around 3,000 BC.

Unfortunately those treasures didn't seem to start to arrive with European Celts until around 45 AD. So defining the origins of Samhain is even harder than defining the origins of the Lantern Festival. It really depends on who you ask.

However like the Lantern Festival Samhain is a Lunisolar festival. Normally occurring midway between the Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice. It marks the end of the living season, Summer, and the start of the dying season; Winter. Whereas the Lantern Festival marks the end of the dying season and the start of the living season.

Most Asian Animist belief systems have a concept similar to Naraka in Hinduism. A dimension through which the dead must travel, working off their Karma in order to be reincarnated. Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Terracotta Army is probably the most ostentatious example of the offerings made to aid the journey through Naraka.

The Closing Ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics introduced us to the Obon or Bon Festival. Most Asian Animist belief systems also have this concept of a Ghost Festival. In which the spirits of the dead are given a day off from Naraka and allowed to visit their loved ones in this dimension.

Samhain also has this concept of the barriers between dimensions being broken down. However in the Celtic Animist tradition this other dimension is populated not by the spirits of the dead. But by an entirely different tribe made up of fairies and elves. The; "Aos Si" or; "Sith" - "The people of the mounds."

Although the Aos Si are considered to be the original tribe of the Celtic lands. So they could certainly be interpreted as ancestors. Particularly as burial mounds are considered the portal between dimensions. A Banshee being a member Aos Si who beckons the death of a loved one.

Rather like an ancestor who has not been properly venerated with tributes to aid their journey through Naraka. The Aos Si can be very vengeful and spiteful, often stealing children as punishment. It is considered bad luck to even refer to the tribe by name.

So the Halloween practice of wearing costumes to go trick-or-treating stems from the Samhain practice of guising. In which you would disguise yourself either to hide from the Aos Si or dress up as the Aos Si. In an effort to trick food and other tributes out of your neighbours.

Samhain is also from where we get the practice of Black-Face. That favourite hobby of Nazi enthusiast Justin Trudeau.

Dating from a time when people didn't know human skin came in any colour other than white. Black-Face is intended to represent the victory of the darkness over the light. Or to disguise yourself from the vengeful Aos Si.

As we learned during the Closing Ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In a section I entitled; "A Dance Around Japan." The Ryukyuan people, primarily from Okinawa island, use White-Face in their celebration of the Bon Festival. A way to disguise yourself as one of the ghosts of honour.

So these Lunisolar, Animist festivals. With the barriers between dimensions being broken down, trickery and Black/White-Face make-up. Are yet another example of things which appeared spontaneously in cultures with no connection between them.

No connection other than the planet, the sky and seasons they share.

The; "Those Damned Doves" section of the 2022 Olympic Opening Ceremony. Compared China as a Totalitarian Socialist nation to Israel as a Libertarian Socialist nation (Provided You Are Jewish!). Along with the possible Animist roots of Judaism.

Judaism and particularly Israel also has a festival based on trickery and disguise. Purim.

Esther hid the fact that she was Jewish in order to marry the Persian King Ahasuerus. Unfortunately Esther's cousin/husband Mordecai fell out with Haman, an adviser to the King. So Haman tricked the King into ordering that all the Jews be massacred.

Finally it was revealed to Ahasuerus that is was Mordecai who helped thwart and earlier plot to assassinate him. Then Esther revealed to Ahasuerus that she is Jewish. So killing all the Jews in the kingdom would mean killing her.

So the King ordered Haman executed. Granting Esther and Mordecai the ability to rescind the order to massacre all the Jews and pass one letting the Jews kill all their enemies instead.

Purim can be very politically difficult. Often used by Israel to justify pre-emptive attacks on its enemies, particularly Iran.

However in the way it is celebrated Purim is more of a national holiday than a religious one. It barely counts as a Jewish religious holiday.

One of the main ways Purim is celebrated is by wearing costumes or guising.

Some say this is in reference to the way Esther disguised her Jewishness. Others say it is in reference to how God disguised his influence in saving the Jews. Other people think it is simply an idea borrowed from the Venice Carnivals in the middle-ages.

Unlike in Halloween/Samhain this guising isn't reserved for a party after work. It's done throughout the day, as you go about your normal business.

So Purim produces many delightful sites. Such as bus queues which go;

Hassidic Jew, Hassidic Jew, Hassidic Jew, SPIDERMAN!, Hassidic Jew, Hassidic Jew, Hassidic Jew.

Other important ways Purim is celebrated is by going door-to-door, handing out food treats. Along with drinking wine until you can no longer remember your own name.

Two things which are also similar to Samhain/Halloween and the Lantern Festival

The key difference being that Purim isn't Lunisolar. Although it is based on the Jewish Lunisolar calendar it doesn't have any connection to the changing seasons.

The connection between Purim and Halloween was explored by the Nickelodeon movie; "Fun Size." Along with my two mothers. My paternal grandfather's given name was; "Albert." While; "Wren" is a British Royal Navy term. For some sort of sea bird.

Fun Size is yet another role Jane Levy had to suffer through. Due to her, somehow, managing to be the incarnation of both of my bisexual girlfriends. Despite them being very different people.

Fun Size was released in 2012. The year of the London Summer Olympics/Para-Olympics.

So it shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone. That in 2021 putting around the rumour that Miley Cyrus might be bisexual didn't cause the World to fall from its axis. Prostrating itself at the feet of its new Messiah, Joe Biden.

Which really should explain why. Days before this Closing Ceremony US-NATO had to launch its completely illegal war against Ukraine the Donbas Republics.

In order to blow the World from its axis. Forcing it to its knees before the Biden regime.

At around 20:35 on 8/9/22 (UK date) it's up to the Foo Fighters. When I get to pick this up again.

Edited at around 10:50 on 29/9/22 (UK date) to bathe, tidy all of the above and copy & paste;

Discussion of China's big national holiday also touches on The Supply-Chain Crisis.

China is the Workshop of the World. All of its factories close just before the Lunar New Year. Then reopen just after the Lantern Festival.

Except in 2020, the Pandemic year. When they closed just before the Lunar New Year. Then didn't reopen until, really, the Autumn Festival in 2021.

Unfortunately NATO has only become more aggressive. In their insistence that this topic is not discussed, let alone resolved.

However we're really now talking about The Previous Economic Crisis.

Either the NATO nations didn't notice that the Supply-Chain Crisis was happening. Or they decided that it wasn't serious enough.

So days before this Closing Ceremony, in violation of the Olympic Truce, NATO launched its wholly illegal war against Ukraine and the Donbas Republics.

In doing this NATO sought to remove at least 11% of all the Natural Gas in the World from the global market. Along with at least 8% of all the Oil in the World from the global market.

NATO also removed a full 30% of the food (wheat/grain) that is needed to feed 7.75 billion people from the global market.

Seriously. A full 3% of all the Nitrogen Fertilizer in the World is produced in a single factory in the Donbas Republics.

A factory that Ukrainian Nazis, armed with NATO guns have blown up.

So this is no longer a Supply-Chain Crisis. This is A NATO Going Crazy and Setting Fire to all the Supplies Crisis.

There isn't an economic solution. There needs to be a political solution.

Or at this point, frankly. Some sort of Psychiatric Intervention.

To be continued in Part 2.

I have a general rule. That I do not cover Eurovison entries while the Song Contest is underway.

In order to protect the integrity of the competition.

The Song Contest ends when the result is released.

So we're all just going to have to wait for the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to do that.

Eurovision 2022: Is Rock Really Back? Pt.2

To be read as a direct continuation of Part 1; https://watchitdie.blogspot.com/2022/05/eurovision-2022-is-rock-really-back.html

It is not just at this year's Song Contest where Rock music has been seeing a resurgence. It also seems to be making a comeback across western societies in general.

The prime example would be the US singer Willow Smith. Although I'm not sure how indicative that is of a wider trend.

Willow Smith's mother is Jada Pinkett-Smith. Believe it or not, Jada Pinkett-Smith used to be the lead singer in the Heavy Metal band; "Wicked Wisdom." So that is clearly just what they do in the Smith household.

Jada Pinkett-Smith's entire career as Black woman who is the lead singer in a Heavy Metal band. A legacy which now seems to have been passed down to her daughter. Touches on the issue of America's very narrow view of what a Black person is allowed to be.

So Black people aren't allowed to like, let alone perform, Heavy Metal music. Just as they're not allowed to like or perform Country music. Instead all Black American people must pretend to be gangsters and street thugs while listening only to Rap and Hip-Hop music.

Although, obviously that is more of a US issue than a European issue. Many European nations, certainly in the East, have no idea what Black people are. They've certainly none of their own.

However Covid was not the only pox that the World suffered during 2020.

The entirely self-inflicted death of George Floyd combined with the Pandemic restrictions. Triggered a sort of collective mental breakdown in the form of the Black Lives Matter campaign.

Within the, particularly British, music and entertainment industry. The collective mental breakdown that was Black Lives Matter. Fuelled a frenzied pursuit of the vaguely defined; "Inclusivity."

Suddenly it seemed that everyone wanted a little ethnic pet of their own. So even the absolute worst dross of the Rap and Hip Hop genres suddenly found themselves getting signed to record labels and heavily promoted with TV and Radio airplay.

It is as if some extremely rich, privileged White people. Are still genuinely surprised that some Black people can read out loud.

Rap and Hip Hop music are, traditionally, entirely electronic.

So Eurovision choosing Rock music and acts playing actual, physical musical instruments. Seems to be something of a pushback against Black Lives Matter. Particularly the absolutely awful music the thirst for inclusivity has spawned.

As I'm sure Jada Pinkett-Smith is well aware. Sections of the Rock, Punk and, particularly, Metal scene can be extremely racist. Full-on Nazi, Neo-Nazi and White Supremacist.

Something which is particularly relevant now the World and particularly Europe finds itself suffering deeply. Due to NATO's overindulgence and encouragement of Ukrainian Nazis, Neo-Nazis and White Supremacists.

That is something I hope to expand or more fully in discussing Ukraine's own entries. Ukraine's entry this year is literally a side project of one of the members of the band who were Ukraine's entry last year.

This resurgence of Rock is not just limited to Willow Smith.

The US singer Olivia Rodrigo also has angsty pop-Punk, Grunge, Rock elements to her work. Something she's certainly been keen to play up with her collaborations with early-2000's pop-Punk star Avril Lavigne.

The return to Rock also seems to extend beyond the world of music into the mainstream.

Kourtney Kardashian has been in a long-term relationship with Travis Barker. Who was the drummer with the late 1990's pop-Punk band Blink-182. Before joining The Transplants, a side project of the much more serious Punk band Rancid.

Travis Barker has been recently collaborating with Willow Smith. I understand that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker got legally married on the day of the Eurovision Grand Final.

Then there is Machine Gun Kelly, who San Marino's Achille Lauro was very much aimed at this year.

Although that was just a minor element of a stand-out act. Named after a ship hijacked by the Palestinian Liberation Army (PLA). Led by a commander who was eventually captured after the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.

I don't really know what genre of music Machine Gun Kelly performs. However from his tattoos and general attitude he certainly looks and acts like a Rock star.

Since early 2020 Machine Gun Kelly has been in a long-term relationship with Megan Fox. Through their respective partners Megan Fox and Kourtney Kardashian seem to have become friends.

Megan Fox used to be married to Brian Austin Green, with whom she has three children. They got together while Brian Austin Green while he was working on the TV show; "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

This was the first big project for Summer Glau after the; "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" spin-off; "Firefly." Unfortunately not knowing about Firefly, let alone her role in it. Terminator; The Sarah Connor Chronicles is how I came to ruin Summer Glau's career.

So Megan Fox and I have certainly been aware of each other for the best part of decade.

Which is probably how she came to play the role of my Israeli Jewish, bisexual girlfriend in the Eminem video; "Love the Way You Lie." With Rihanna playing the role of my girlfriend's girlfriend.

I think Megan Fox might actually have met one of my mothers in real-life. While making a documentary about Stonehenge.

When I arrived in Salisbury, the day after Megan Fox had left. I was certainly faced with a lot of questions about that American woman with the camera crew and gaggle of children in tow.

It almost goes without saying. That Kourtney Kardashian and Kim Kardashian definitely know each other.

Prior to the Great American Bell Ringing of October 2021. Kim Kardashian and I were Social Media or; "Facebook Friends."

Which does pose the question;

"Is this resurgence of Rock entirely my fault?!"

At the time of the 2021 Song Contest I was starting to resume contact with Miley Cyrus, for the first time in about 8 years. Exploring the possibility of some sort of relationship developing between us.

I think that even us who were never that sure who she was or why she was famous. Then have actively ignored her for the past 8 years. Are aware that Miley Cyrus has been something of a life journey.

From spoiled, rich White girl. To supposedly bisexual Punk-Rock chick.

Personally I've always had my doubts about this.

It seems too close to the character arc of "Abby Parker." From the US TV show; "The Deuce."

My brother gave me Season 1 of The Deuce for Christmas in 2018. At the height of my involvement in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and associated groups in Syria and Iraq.

My brother then very loudly announced. That he had asked his Indian Muslim girlfriend to marry him. As the pair celebrated Christmas.

Making it seem as though my entire family was on some weird sex crusade against Islam.

My fury was only compounded. By the fact that this was the same day it emerged that Miley Cyrus, of all people! Had managed to get married quietly, in secret.

Miley Cyrus of course helped organise the 2017 benefit concert. For victims of the ISIL bombing of the Manchester Arena.

A big feature of Miley Cyrus' supposed transition to Punk-Rock chick is her emulation of Debbie Harry. Lead singer of the band Blondie.

Blondie are actually a; "New Wave" band. New Wave being a small, short-lived but important genre in the history of music.

As I seem to have been writing about constantly for two years. All western popular music can really trace its roots to the birth of Jazz and Blues.

Blues music eventually became Rock music. While Rock music eventually became ridiculously self-indulgent and overblown.

"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly being a case in point. A 17 minute and 3 second case in point.

Punk emerged as a fast, short, stripped-back rebellion against how ridiculously self-indulgent and bloated Rock had become.

This led to accusations that Punk is not a real form of music. It's just noise being made by people who can't even play their instruments.

The Sex Pistols were always more of a performance art piece than a band. However Sid Vicious certainly didn't have a musical bone in his body.

All the bass guitar parts on Sex Pistols songs are played by someone else entirely. They just stuck Sid Vicious up on stage because he looked the part.

However many Punk artists are actually very technically accomplished musicians. If your ears and brain can keep up then many songs hark back to the melodies of the birth of Rock n' Roll.

New Wave really expanded on the musical abilities of Punk. Some New Wave bands like Spandau Ballet started playing about with synthesisers and other new, microprocessor based, instruments.

From there Electronic Dance Music (EDM) emerged. EDM seeming to be the main form of western Pop music at the moment.

Punk and New Wave is a genre and era that I'm actually quite knowledgeable about.

I actually attended the same, essentially, Community College as the Sex Pistol's manager Malcolm McLaren. Although many years later. It was there where I met my Israel Jewish, bisexual girlfriend.

So hearing that Miley Cyrus might be interested in that type of music. I started suggesting some other, much more obscure, songs that she might also like. Very much in the style of;

"Well. A lot of meddling, matchmaking friends have shoved us together. Apparently neither of us can leave until we at least try talking to each other."

"Do you want to talk about this?"

If I had to pick a song from the genre/era to provide the theme music for the whole thing. I would choose; "Bye Bye Baby Blue" by The Undertones.

Not least because it references "This Year's Girl" by Elvis Costello. Which was used as the opening theme music for season 2 of The Deuce.

All of which seems to have found the ears of Demi Lovato. Who, like Miley Cyrus, is a Disney child actress turned popstar.

In January 2022 Demi Lovato held a "funeral" for her pop career. To mark her re-launch as a Punk-Rock artist.

Demi Lovato and I have been aware of each, other certainly since her drugs overdose in 2018.

Not least because her ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valdarrama is a cast member of the US TV show; "NCIS." One of the few cast members who wasn't also in; "From The Earth To The Moon."

Which brings me on to one of the most sickening things that Miley Cyrus and her evil clan did in 2022. A year in which they did a great many truly sickening and appalling things.

They attempted to create a fake lesbian romance between Demi Lovato and Noah Cyrus, Miley's younger sister. All while Demi Lovato is indulging this ridiculous current fad for self-selecting gender pronouns.

I think it is well established public knowledge that Demi Lovato has long struggled with mental illness, particularly eating disorders. Actual eating disorders, not the type every female celebrity seems to develop every time they need some press coverage.

I also think it is established public knowledge. That not only did Demi Lovato suffer a drugs overdose in 2018 she was also brutally raped. This near fatal drugs overdose has left her with serious, long-term heath problems. I think she is now legally blind.

Although I've not seen it. I gather this was all covered in detail in the 2021 Netflix documentary; "Demi Lovato: Dancing With The Devil."

I don't want to further add to the stigma surrounding Demi Lovato.

However what we are talking about are serious and real medical and psychological problems. As such they are covered by the Hippocratic Oath; "First do no harm."

It's one thing for me, Miley Cyrus, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna or whoever to muck about on the Internet. Gossiping about Eurovision, the Oscars even other celebrities.

The issues that Demi Lovato has to deal with are something you could not even contemplate addressing in that way. If I was a medical professional treating her I would be legally forbidden from sharing that information with anyone.

The same is true of what has been widely reported as Kanye West's Bipolar Disorder. Something which I might be able to give his, now, ex-wife Kim Kardashian some insight into. At least to help minimise the impact of the divorce on their children.

If Kim Kardashian were to do something like that. Then that would be the point where we would have to bring in military grade counter-surveillance measures. Something I'm more than capable of doing, even without Elon Musk's chequebook.

Of course if Kim Kardashian were to then share my insights with members of her social and professional circles. Then that would be her choice to make. Not mine.

So to my mind and, clearly, to the minds of a lot of other people.

Miley Cyrus and particularly Noah Cyrus' behaviour towards to Demi Lovato has crossed the line into the criminal. Reckless Endangerment bordering on Attempted Murder.

I don't really care whether the police in California get her for drink, drugs or driving. Noah Cyrus is going to actual prison for a good six months.

As for Demi Lovato's rapist. I'm surprised he's not currently re-surfacing a road somewhere.

All of which brings me onto what I thought was one of the stand-out acts of this year's contest;

At around 17:10 on 19/5/22 (UK date) I'll have to see if my anger can fade over dinner.

Eurovision 2022: Is Rock Really Back?

Saturday (14/5/22) saw the Grand Final of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest. Held in Turin, Italy.

The reason why it was held in Italy. Is that last year Italy won the 65th Eurovision Song Contest. With the song; "Zitti E Buoni" (Shut Up And Behave) by the band Maneskin.

Maneskin's victory was viewed unusual. As it is not considered to be your typical Eurovision song for a couple of reasons.

At its most basic the Song Contest is a song-writing competition. It is a celebration of the song-writers, the producers, the engineers.

All the people who are really the music industry. Even if you never get to see them on stage, in the spotlight.

It is the song-writer who must come from the nation being represented. They can chuck pretty much anything they want up on stage to sing it.

The Canadian singer Celine Dion famously helped launch her career by representing Switzerland at the 1988 Song Contest. The song; "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi" (Don't Leave Without Me) was written by Nella Martinetti from Ticino, Switzerland.

It wasn't until 2016, when Poland asked if they could be represented by an actual Wolf. That it was formally clarified. If the performer is from planet Earth, then they must be a member of the Human species.

What attracts many song-writers to Eurovision is the challenge it presents. From its simple roots it has grown into a forum for nations to discuss the big political and social issues of the day.

Making each song not so much a song. As a musical statement about the big political and social issues of the day. However due to the Song Contest's golden rule. Those statements cannot be overtly political.

Really anyone good enough to work in the music industry can write a simple heartbreak love song. Particularly if they're allowed to get away with ever so slightly re-working someone else's song. Just ask Ed Sheeran.

However it is much more of a fun challenge. To see if you can write a not overtly political song about the finer, technical points of something like EU Directive 2019/790 on Copyright in the Digital Single Market. The so-called; "Meme Law."

So Eurovision songs tend to be packed with coded little references to political and social issues. Maneskin's entry was unusual in that it didn't. It was just a song they'd written anyway that Italy decided to enter into the Song Contest.

"Maneskin" is a Danish word meaning; "Moonshine." It was suggested by the band's bass player Victoria De Angelis, who is a Danish/Italian dual national.

Which sort of touches on EU integration. Particularly its core pillar; The Free Movement of Human Capital/People.

But not really as Victoria De Angelis is Italian born to an Italian father and Danish mother. So even without the EU she'd be free to live and work in both.

The band was formed while all its members were students at Rome's John F. Kennedy High School. Named after US President John F. Kennedy.

Which sort of touches on how the US Democrat Party are the Party of Slavery.

How it really took the assassination of President Kennedy to allow the US Civil Rights movement of the 1960's and 1970's to happen. Something which was always a dispute between different factions within the Democrat Party.

It's claimed that the band had to rush to pick a name. In order to perform at the 2016; "Pulse" contest for new bands.

Which sort of touches on the June 2016 mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Florida, US. Apparently just a normal part of the Party of Slavery's electioneering.

However all of these little references are a bit tenuous by Song Contest standards. They also come from the artist's biography. Although these are submitted in support of the entry, technically it is only the song itself that is considered the entry.

The only issue raised by the song itself is that it is done in a very 1970's Glam Rock style. Particularly in the way it was performed at the Song Contest.

This was in reference to one very specific performance of 1970's Glam Rock anthem; "Children of the Revolution" by T-Rex. The performance of the song by Elton John and Pete Doherty at the 2005 Live 8 concert.

This took place to put pressure on the Group of 8 (G8) nations. To accept the demands of the Jubilee-2000 campaign.

Allowing the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to introduce the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative. Initially cancelling some US$40bn of Neo-Colonial debt.

Pete Doherty's role in the concert was to serve as a metaphor for my, admittedly covert, role in that overtly political campaign. Essentially some singers did some songs, I did something else.

The faction within Britain who still believes in the likes of Elton John and Ed Sheeran. Have claimed ever since that my involvement and, therefore, the success of the campaign. Was the result of their magical superpowers. Their Jedi-like mind control tricks.

In the Opening Ceremony of the delayed 2020 Summer Olympics. Japan certainly granted me ample opportunity to dispel that particular myth.

An opportunity I feel I'm about to be granted again.

Although he's clearly still too thick to realise it. Elton John's performance with Pete Doherty in my role was actually done in mockery of that claim and him, personally.

The song he was given to sing seeming to say;

"Surely no-one could be so stupid as to ever believe in me."

It is part of the enduring success of the Song Contest. That it is utterly impossible to definitely say which song is the best. Allowing for constant discussion.

However there was some feeling that France's entry "Viola" (Here) by Barbara Pravi would have been a more deserving winner. As it was perhaps the better Eurovision song.

It was much more intricate in its design. The song itself included many detailed references to complex political and social issues.

Not only that it covered almost all of the issues that everyone else was talking about. Showing France's ability to understand the world around it.

So I think many people wanted to see France win and Italy come second. Including Italy and Maneskin themselves.

This isn't because we dislike Maneskin. In fact it is quite the opposite.

As it's not really understood by people outside of the music industry. The Song Contest and the performers who participate in it can get sneered at.

ABBA obviously helped launch their careers by winning the 1974 Song Contest. However since then the people who've been able to repeat the feat have been few and far between.

At the 2021 Song Contest Israel were represented by Eden Alere.

Like all Israelis she had do a period of compulsory military service. However it appears as though she did most of that military service on the Israeli version of; "The X-Factor."

Perhaps a reference to how some already successful artists view having to appear at Eurovision. An unpleasant thing that they must do in service of their country.

Rock music fans, amongst whom Maneskin are trying to launch their career. Are the sort of people who are particularly likely to sneer at the Song Contest.

So we think it would be probably be better for Maneskin. If it appeared deep in their Wikipedia page that they once participated in the Song Contest.

Rather than having to carry the stigma of having to be introduced everywhere they go as;

"Eurovision Winners, Maneskin."

So rather than complaining that Maneskin won. I feel as though I should be apologising to them.

What appears to have elevated them above Barbara Pravi was me accidentally lending them some of the popularity of the success of the Jubilee-2000 campaign.

At Eurovision everyone's performance is always subject to review.

At around 17:15 on 16/5/22 (UK date) I'll have to pick this up tomorrow.

Edited at around 17:00 on 18/5/22 (UK date) to copy & paste;

Barbara Pravi performed in the style of Chanteur/Chanteuse. The fact that French is gendered language touched on Transgender issues and the current fad for ridiculous, self-selected gender pronouns.

The Chanteur/Chanteuse is a rather uniquely French musical tradition. They are sort of like buskers, singing songs in the hope of donations from passers-by.

However they would also sell the sheet music of their songs. Allowing people to sing the songs themselves, at home.

During the Pandemic Barbara Pravi's musical career was reduced to selling songs for people to use on the Chinese Social Media App; "TikTok."

Within the Chanteuse metaphor this made TikTok something of a; "Digital Silk Road."

There was much discussion that year about the old Silk Road trade route. Due to China's attempts to resurect it through its One Belt, One Road (Belt and Road) Initiative.

From the way Barbara Pravi sung about whether people were interested in her music or her beauty. I get the impression that the line between Chanteuse and Prostitute was always a fine one.

Touching on the sexualisation of women in the music and wider entertainment industry.

Really the most famous Chanteuse is Edith Piaf. She certainly portrayed herself as a prostitute in one of her more famous songs; "L'Accordenoniste."

About her dependence on her song-writer, the accordion player Michel Emer. Who, suddenly, became unavailable in 1940.

Edith Piaf was certainly very dependent on Michel Emer after the Second World War. It was him, as a Jew, speaking up for her which prevented her from being executed for treason and Nazi collaboration.

Here in 2022 I think everyone is sick of telling Miley Cyrus that story. Only to watch her go off and enthusiastically collaborate with the Nazis. Again.

Part of the reason why Edith Piaf is probably the most famous Chanteuse is that her career spanned the 1920's and 1930's. This was when it first became possible to record music.

Edith Piaf and other Chanteur/Chanteurse's embraced this new technology. Starting to sell records alongside sheet music. A technological advancement which fundamentally changed the way that music is consumed.

So I can now listen to Edith Piaf sing in my home, many years after her death. When, before, in order to hear her sing I would have to find the Paris street corner she was standing on.

Chanteuse are particularly famous for Torch Songs. Sentimental ballads about lost or unrequited love. A tradition which lives on in big divas like Celine Dion.

Torch Songs have, traditionally, been very popular amongst the Eurovision community. With even the bad ones still tending to do quite well.

In contrast Maneskin's winning song was a Rock song. Not even a sort of Eurovision impersonation of a Rock song. Just a song by a full on Rock band.

Rock is a genre which, traditionally, isn't at all popular amongst the Eurovision community. On the rare occasions it does feature it's normally a way for a country to tell all the other countries that they don't want to win.

So Maneskin's victory touches on something which has been long-running trend within the Song Contest.

In many ways the Eurovision Song Contest is the top echelon of the global gay community. It is certainly the most holy of the gay holidays.

Although you probably wouldn't be able to tell from watching western TV shows and movies. Obsessed as they are with; "Representation." Gay people only make up about 1-3% of the population.

A few years ago there was a mini-outrage. Over how homophobic is was that Apple's Tim Cook was the only openly gay CEO amongst the top 100 companies listed on the London Stock-Exchange.

I remember thinking. That based on sample size of just 100 then 1 is exactly the correct level of representation.

With them representing such a tiny proportion of the population the gay community is extremely small and tight-knit. The term; "Incestuous" has certainly been known to be used.

Due to, particularly, homophobia. Being accepted by the gay community is hugely important for any gay person.

With it replacing other support structures, such as family. Even those provided by the state, in nations where homosexuality is still illegal.

In order to be accepted by any community you have to adhere to its unwritten rules and conventions of behaviour. Obviously the easiest of these for a song contest to discuss is music.

Gay Music is almost an entirely separate genre in its own right. Made up of the Torch Songs of divas like Celine Dion. Alongside cheesy, vapid Pop and EDM. The line between Pop and EDM having become increasingly blurred across wider society.

Amongst the European nations which make up the bulk of Song Contest participants. The struggle for equal rights for gay people is over. They won. In no small part due to the work of the Song Contest.

So there isn't really this distinction between the gay community and wider society anymore. There's just wider society.

It's become something of a sign of this progress. That particularly gay men now feel secure enough in wider society that they can break the rules of the gay community. Saying;

"Actually I don't want to listen to Kylie Minogue. I want to listen to Guns N' Roses."

It turns out. Your sexuality only pre-determines who you want to have sex with.

Which brings me onto what I thought was one of the stand-out acts of the 2021 Song Contest.

Portugal (2021): "Love Is On My Side" by The Black Mamba.

I think by now we're all pretty familiar with the #MeToo campaign. Which has seen women share and protest their experiences of harassment and sexual violence.

However unless you are a French speaking gay man. Or someone who spends way too much time reading the news. You probably won't be aware of the offshoot campaign #MeTooGay.

This is largely gay men sharing and protesting their experiences of rape and sexual violence at the hands of other gay men. Something which I have to say is pretty endemic and tolerated within the, particularly gay male community.

Much of the discussion of #MeTooGay is over the extra pressure not to speak out. For fear of being seen to damage the cause of gay-rights and being shunned by the gay-community. A gay community which seems to refuse to police itself.

The lyrics and story of The Black Mamba's song are really dark. Even darker than their name. It's about a gay man being kidnapped, drugged and raped by another gay man.

It seems inspired by the; "Dembe Zuma" character from the US TV show; "The Blacklist." I can't remember the details of this fictional character's backstory. I'm not even sure if it was ever fully fleshed out.

However it involved him being a child solider in some West African nation. Then being captured and sold into prostitution.

At the age of about 12 he was found, chained, in a brothel by the sexually ambiguous main character; "Raymond Reddington." Who rescues him and moulds him into his adult friend and confident.

The lead singer of The Black Mamba is openly, and dare we say obviously, gay himself. However the well established band do not play Gay Music. Instead performing the sort of Soft Jazz Japan would really like.

So I thought Portugal's 2021 entry was incredibly brave. Raising a vitally important topic. In a way I was pleased to see it garner enough support to go through to the Grand Final.

Although I did wonder whether it was a topic best discussed in the week leading up to the Grand Final. Amongst people who understand what the Song Contest is about.

I was worried people, who are neither French speaking nor gay men. Casually watching the Grand Final might get the wrong impression.

While it is the top echelon of the global gay community and there is considerable overlap. Far from everyone involved in the Song Contest is gay. While there are a great many gay people who simply cannot stand the Song Contest.

So the Song Contest isn't really dominated by Gay Music. As much as by Eurovision Music. Which is a highly technical genre unto itself.

Things got particularly bad in the mid-2000's. When the Song Contest was opened up to all the new Eastern European nations.

They saw the Song Contest as a way to establish their identity and boost their profile. Slovenia has spent its entire modern existence being confused with Slovakia.

So they all did the song that they thought the Eurovision community would like. So they would be able to win the Song Contest.

The result was really just the same song being performed 40 times in a row. Which, in many ways, made it harder to tell the countries apart.

So recently there has been a few people sticking their hands and saying; "Can we just enjoy a good song for a minute?"

It's role as the top echelon of the global gay community. Has led to the Song Contest being seen as an exclusively gay event. Where only gay issues are discussed.

A particular low point was Azerbaijan's 2013 entry. "Hold Me" by Farid Mammadov.

This involved him singing while standing on a see-through plastic box. Within that box was a man in an all black bodysuit shadowing his every movement.

Azerbaijan is a former Soviet state. Some of that very repressive security infrastructure still lingers. Particularly for artists and other creative types who the Soviet system considered particularly prone to being subversive.

So the man following the artist's every move. Was a gentle protest against Azerbaijan's security infrastructure.

Except the gay community couldn't cope with that. As the Song Contest is an exclusively gay event where only gay issues are discussed.

So they decided that the man in the box was a metaphor for the singer's hidden homosexuality. As, apparently, everything is always a metaphor for everyone's hidden homosexuality(!).

The gay community kept arguing this point. Even with the people whose song it was.

This sort of seemingly brainwashed obsession with sex. Probably isn't the best image for the gay community to project to nations and societies which are still deeply homophobic.

At around 17:20 on 18/5/22 (UK date) I'll see if I can pick this up after dinner.

Edited at around 19:45 on 18/5/22 (UK date) to tidy all of the above and copy & paste;

It's difficult to say what the Song Contest should be. It was originally intended as a one-off televised singing competition.

However it does have a long history. Of being a forum for the European nations to discuss the big political and social issues they consider important to them at that time.

With it now being viewed by some as only a gay event. Where only gay issues can be discussed. It has rather moved away from that longstanding purpose.

To make matters worse the Song Contest doesn't really have a large gay fanbase. So much as a large gay male fanbase.

So despite all its claims to be inclusive and supportive of diversity. The Song Contest has been in danger of reaching a point that it is so discriminatory it even excludes half of the gay community.

In recent years there have been moves to encourage the Song Contest to broaden its horizons. Performing songs which aren't typically Gay Music has been an easy way for a song competition to do that.

This spectacle of a continent of nearly 800 million people. Having its diverse political and social priorities being reduced to serve the interests of just 1% of its population.

That can be used to serve as a metaphor for the growing global Wealth Inequality.

With the richest 1% of the population owning wealth equivalent to that owned by the entire other 99% of the population. Then using that money to dictate the political and social agenda.

Although I will try and cover it more fully later. I think that is one of the points Malta were trying to make with their entry this year. "I Am What I Am" by Emma Muscat.

Emma Muscat being one of Malta's richest people. Rather like Rihanna these days fashion is her main job. Music is more of her hobby.

We're all casually interested to know what Miley Cyrus' new career will be. Now she's very clearly quit the music and entertainment industry.

Or possibly Malta were trying to use the wealth inequality issue. As a way to nudge the Song Contest into broadening its horizons. Emma Muscat is, very obviously, not a gay man.

Given that this is the Song Contest. I suspect it was probably a bit of both, at the same time.

The sort of thing which certainly isn't going to shock a Song Contest audience from its axis.

Eurovision 2022: Hungover Sunday Edition.

Yesterday (15/5/22) saw the Grand Final of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest. Held in Turin, Italy.

The Song Contest is the big gala event of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Founded in 1950 the EBU is a network of 115 TV and Radio broadcasters across 56 nations. Along with 34 associate members spread across 21 nations.

Its mission is to promote unity amongst its members. While furthering technological advancement in the field of Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The EBU was founded six years before the launching of the first satellite, Sputnik-I, into space. Eighteen years before the invention of the first microprocessor. Marking the start of the computer age.

The first challenge the EBU set itself. Was to develop technology to simultaneously broadcast live TV pictures and audio across a continent.

It took them six years to achieve that goal. Leaving them with just one remaining problem. What to point the cameras and microphones at?

They settled on the idea of a singing competition.

Since then the Eurovision Song Contest has grown, massively. Into a forum for its participating nations to discuss the big political and social issues on the day.

Currently the biggest issue globally, certainly within Europe. Is Ukraine's Current Bothers.

This put the Song Contest into a very difficult position.

The window to submit entries actually runs from September through to March. Depending on when exactly in May the contest will be held. However most of the entries tend to be put together between December and February.

Ukraine's current bothers didn't explode until the end of February. Really putting it outside of the window that it could be discussed at the Song Contest.

Obviously, certainly since their killing of Ukrainian cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021. The US have been extremely vocal about their desire to attack Ukraine.

Really from late November 2021 onwards. The US had been giving near daily press briefings.

Not only informing everyone of their plan to attack Ukraine during the 2022 Winter Olympics. Held in Beijing, China. But also laying out the detail of how they planned to attack Ukraine during the Winter Olympics.

They were extremely vocal about how they were going to carry out attacks to the Donbas Republics on Ukraine's eastern border. Which, since 2014, have been independent nations under international law.

The US believed that this would force the Donbas Republics to invite a small Russian force in to protect them. Something which actually all members of the United Nations (UN) would be obligated to do under international law.

The US then hoped to use the arrival of Russian forces in the Donbas Republics as an excuse. First to impose the sanctions they've long fantasized about imposing on Russia.

Then as an excuse for Ukraine to invade and colonise the Donbas Republics. Similar to the offensives Ukraine launched against its new neighbours in 2018.

However even after NATO launched its first attacks against the Donbas Republics, on February 17th (17/2/22). There was still hope that the US and NATO could be stopped. War could be prevented.

Even after Russia's operation to protect the Donbas Republics had begun, on February 24th (24/2/22). It was still incredibly difficult to tell how the conflict would go.

Would it still be going at the time of the Song Contest? Would it be over, and if so, how would it have ended?

Due to Ukraine's oft repeated desire, including at the UN Security Council, to launch Nuclear strikes against Russia.

There was even some concern over whether there would still be a Europe at this point. Let alone a Song Contest.

NATO military analysts have repeatedly shown themselves to be incapable of answering these questions. Which prediction after prediction turning out to be false.

So it is a bit much to ask a bunch of TV and music people to make those sorts of predictions and answer questions such as those.

Also since the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest. We've, unusually, seen not one but two Olympics/Para-Olympics. A global forum for participating nations to discuss the big political and social issues on the day.

While Japan gave me ample opportunity to show-off. I think that we can all agree that the delayed 2020 Summer games were really heavy.

The 2022 Winter games ran from February through to March. Meaning that like NATO's attack on Ukraine which occurred in the middle of them. They were really outside the window for discussion at the Song Contest.

It is obviously difficult for Europe to respond to what China has said. When China has yet to say it.

So it was perhaps fortunate for the Eurovision community.

That at the time of the 2021 Song Contest I was resuming contact with Miley Cyrus, for the first time in about eight years. Exploring the possibility of some sort of relationship developing between us.

Almost as if they're part of that mass of match-making mutual friends. Who've being trying to shove Miley Cyrus and me together for the best part of a decade.

The Eurovision community were very supportive of a relationship between me and Miley Cyrus. While it was certainly the least important theme of that year's contest it was definitely one of the major themes.

With many nations using their entries to push Miley Cyrus and I further together.

They also warned the US/UK not to attempt to hijack any potential relationship. Explaining, in quite some detail, why any such plan was always going to fail.

Some even took the time to warn Miley Cyrus. Of what would happen to her life and career if the US/UK were able to hijack any potential relationship between us.

Miley Cyrus responded by not only allowing the US/UK to hijack our potential relationship. But enthusiastically helping them to weaponise the relationship against me and, really, the entire human race in general.

It was around this time that my father was admitted to hospital for major surgery. Which put me in contact with a lot of medical professionals and social workers.

None of these people seemed to have any interest in my father's health or care. They were much more interested in looking for evidence of my mental illness. In an effort to, effectively, imprison me for life without the formality or a crime, let alone trial.

A delusional belief that I am in a relationship with Miley Cyrus. Who hides secret messages just for me in her Instagram posts. Is exactly the sort of evidence all those medical professionals and social workers were looking for.

So really the only theme of the 2022 Song Contest. Hasn't so much been a discussion of how Miley Cyrus' life and career is going.

As a jostling for style points. For who can most elaborately break the bad news to Miley and the entire Cyrus camp.

Well, for everyone except the United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom (UK) used their time to boast about how fantastically well the past year has gone for them. While openly mocking me and my rather spacey mental health problems.

Obviously I hope the dark clouds of hangover will lift sooner, rather than later.

However at this point I genuinely cannot explain how the UK managed to come second. Propelled largely by votes from professional juries. The people who put together all the other entries.

I can only assume it was a Fat-Finger blunder. A simple data-entry error.

They meant to give the UK 0 points. Yet accidentally gave them 10 points instead.

Either that or they've made the mistake of trying to apply the standards of the sane. To people who are, clearly, anything but.

Obviously the US/UK believed that hijacking my relationship with Miley Cyrus would be the one thing that would make all their dreams come true. The big, bold move that see them achieve all of their objectives.

So by talking about Miley Cyrus. You're also able to talk about the specific objectives the US/UK were trying to achieve.

For example Albania were very interested in the US/UK's promise. That Miley Cyrus would be able to get me to talk about that 1999 "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" Samurai sword attack on my childhood Church.

Something which was intended as the UK's warning to NATO. About the threat posed by Albanian members of the Afghan Mujahedeen.

Which, at the time. NATO were using as part of, really, Albania's invasion and seizure of Serbia's southern Kosovo Province.

While Bulgaria were particularly focused on the disastrous NATO withdrawal from Afghanistan. Led by the US/UK's Kendall Jenner stalking, basement-dwelling, virgins.

As part of their entries nations also submit a biography of the artist. These can be quite lengthy, used to further add to the discussion.

For example Germany's entry this year is from Landsberg am Lech. Which is where Adolf Hitler wrote; "Mein Kampf."

It was also the site of a Nazi Concentration Camp. The liberation of which was portrayed in the US TV show; "Band of Brothers."

The US military then built an Air Base on the site. Where Johnny Cash became the first person in the western world to learn of the death of Josef Stalin.

It was a recurring theme of this year's contest. Just how sparse the artist biographies were.

Both Norway and Georgia just refused to even give their real names. We find it hard to believe that Norway's act were really born on the Moon.

This was in reference to how the US/UK had promised everyone. That Miley Cyrus would be able to get me to share the intimate details of my ex-girlfriends. All those Thrupple's, famous and otherwise.

Rather than being something Miley Cyrus would have to trick out of me. It's something I'd decided at the start I was prepared to just give to her.

My only condition being that we were allowed to talk directly and, relatively, discreetly.

So in their stupidity. The US/UK even managed to fail to pick up what I'd laid out on the table for them.

I'm sure that even those of us who have been actively ignoring her. Are aware that Miley Cyrus has been on something of a life journey.

New Wave been a small, short-lived but important genre in the history of music.

Funnily enough. The people involved in the Song Contest are actually quite into music.

Obviously I'm still far too hungover. To chart the decline of Punk and the rise of New Wave. Against western economies emergence from the Stagflation of the 1970's.

Let alone explain how Ukraine managed to win.

However I suspect their current bothers have attracted a mob of new voters. Unfamiliar with the fact that winning the Song Contest can often be a form of punishment.

They've joined Eurovision regulars. Who know that Nazi infested, belligerent Ukraine needs to be punished.

The 2022 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony Pt.13

To be read as a direct continuation of Part 12; https://watchitdie.blogspot.com/2022/04/the-2022-winter-olympics-opening_21.html

Cauldron Lighting.

It fell to Dinigeer Yilaujiang and Zhao Jiawen to jointly light the Olympic Cauldron.

Generally considered to be the peak of every Opening Ceremony. The lighting of the Olympic Cauldron is traditionally a spectacular affair.

In the 2020 Summer Olympic Opening Ceremony held in Tokyo, Japan. Naomi Osaka stood at the foot of a pyramid representing Mount Fuji.

The mountain opened to reveal a staircase resembling flows of lava. As the pearl-like orb at the top rotated and opened like a blossoming flower.

By Olympic standards that was actually considered a low-key cauldron lighting. In keeping with the theme of environmental conservation of the Hydrogen fuelled Olympic Cauldron.

The cauldron lighting at the Opening Ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics. Also held in Beijing, China. Was much more ostentatious.

Then the task fell to the final Torch Bearer, Li Ning. A gymnast who is China's most decorated Olympian.

Having won six medals at the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, US. The first games in which China was able to compete as the People's Republic of China.

Upon retiring from sport Li Ning established his own sportswear company, Li-Ning Company Limited. A company which now sees him worth around US$1bn. Yet only the 407th wealthiest person in China.

Still holding the Olympic Torch Li Ning was hoisted on wires to the roof of the arena. Where he ran a lap of the rim of the stadium roof, at a perilous 90 angle.

He then used the torch to light a fuse embedded into the rim of the stadium roof. The fuse burned to the base of the cauldron structure. Then burned its way up, around the scroll shape before finally igniting the cauldron at the top.

In the earlier section which I entitled; "A Quantum of Celebration." We were introduced into the large but simple metal frame structure. In the shape of a Snowflake, made up of smaller Snowflakes. Each bearing the name of a competing nation.

This Snowflake structure had reappeared at the end of the section which immediately preceded the Torch Relay. The section I entitled; "Those Damned Doves" ended with children surrounding the Snowflake structure forming the shape of a love heart.

The Torch Relay ended with Dinigeer Yilaujiang and Zhao Jiawen entering that group of children. To stand behind the Snowflake structure.

Given the theatrics of the 2008 cauldron lighting we were all excited to see what would happen next.

Perhaps Dinigeer Yilaujiang, Zhao Jiawen and the entire Snowflake structure would be lifted on wires towards the heavens. As if being sent into orbit or to the source of the Yellow River (Huang he).

Instead they simply mounted the Olympic Torch within the Snowflake structure. Then stepped back, as the Snowflake structure was lifted on wires to around midway in the air between the arena floor and the arena roof.

The Olympic Torch was the Olympic Cauldron. The most simple, basic Olympic Cauldron you could imagine.

This stripped back simplicity was really the main motif of the Opening Ceremony.

Rather than dealing with a wide variety of complex global topics. It really only gave you a quick introduction to China's history and culture.

Before repeatedly reminding you that China is currently the only nation able to do Quantum Cryptography/Encryption. With its Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS) satellite.

While also repeatedly mocking the US/UK for their decision to pass up the opportunity to at least try and catch up with China. Through their disastrous attempts to hijack my relationship with Miley Cyrus.

The way that it was executed was also very simple. Most of the Opening Ceremony was done in the form of Light Projection, Laser Projection or with the giant LED screen hidden beneath the arena floor.

This allowed for extremely intelligent and in depth discussion about the sub-atomic physics of light. Around which Quantum Cryptography is based.

Along with the vital role in global trade played by Semi-Conductors. The Rare Earth Minerals needed to produce them.

However it had none of the ostentatious grandeur of the 2008 Olympic Opening ceremony. With its 2,008 drummers in traditional Chinese costumes. Amid as cast of almost 10,000 performers.

Take for example the fireworks in the shape of branches of a Huangshan (Yellow Mountains) Pine Tree. Which ended the section I entitled; "Opening Speeches."

This raised a range of topics including China's ancient Animist beliefs - "The Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors." Nazi Germany's appropriation of the Swastika symbol. China's burgeoning domestic environmental movement.

All of which took me some 1,200 words and most of the day. Not to explain fully. More to just, really, make you aware of topics to read up on yourself.

However visually, as part of the experience. Those fireworks lasted for two, possibly three seconds.

The director of the Opening Ceremony, Zhang Yimou, has said that the decision to use the Olympic Torch as the Olympic Cauldron. Was to symbolise environmental sustainability and set the standard for a carbon neutral games and global future.

That is certainly a valid opinion. Probably the most valid opinion. As the entire thing was his idea.

However representing the more general motif of the Opening Ceremony, the lack of ostentatious grandeur. The most simple Olympic Cauldron imaginable also went to something much deeper within Chinese society.

As I'm sure we all know by now. Having not only been mentioned multiple times during this Opening Ceremony but also throughout the incredibly recent 2020 Summer games. China experienced a civil war between 1927 and 1949.

This Chinese Civil War (1927-1949) lasted for so long. That the entire Second World War was really only something that happened in the middle of it.

The war came to an end in 1949 when the Chinese Communist Party, largely led by Chairman Mao Zedong, emerged victorious. Establishing the People's Republic of China.

As has also been discussed extensively here, alongside in Japan. The US did not recognise China as China until 1972.

When then US President Nixon visited Mao Zedong in Beijing. This recognition opened China up to the World. Really defining the World as we know it today.

Obviously President Nixon's foot touching the tarmac at Beijing Airport didn't instantly change the World in a moment. It merely symbolically marked the start of a period of transition. Both in the US' attitude towards China and changes within Chinese society itself.

When China was first established as a Communist state. It followed traditional Marxist-Leninist Communism. That is Communist theory developed by Karl Marx which had first been put into practice in Russia by Vladimir Lenin.

Communism isn't really an economic theory or model. So much as a political belief that power lies in the hands of the workers. Capitalism is a system which exploits the workers. So the workers must unite to overthrow Capitalism.

Karl Marx drew up his political theory in 19th Century Germany, during the Industrial Revolution. So by; "Workers" he meant people who worked in factories and heavy industries.

He didn't really use the term; "Workers." Instead preferring the term; "Proletariat" from the Latin for; "Producing Offspring." By which he meant people who earn a wage in return for the work they do in someone else's factory.

The thing is that this never really applied to China.

As was explained in the section which I entitled; "Dandelion." 19th Century China was not dominated by the Industrial Revolution.

Instead it was dominated by the decline of Imperial China. With much of the territory of the Qing Dynasty being nothing more than colonies or; "Cantons" of foreign Colonial powers.

So one of Mao Zedong's first policies was to bring the Industrial Revolution to China. A rapid, 5 year, shift away from a farming based society to an industrialised one. Known as; "The Great Leap Forward." Introduced in 1958.

The sudden removal of large numbers of workers from farms to factories. Along with new Georgian argrian policies which simply didn't work and a series of natural disasters. Meant The Great Leap Forward was a catastrophic failure.

By 1962 the five year plan of The Great Leap Forward had been abandoned. Amid the; "Great Chinese Famine (1959-1961)." In which around 55 million people starved to death. Something like 10% of China's total population.

Embattled by the failure of The Great Leap Forward. In 1966 Mao Zedong launched his own interpretation of Communism. Officially known as; "Mao Zedong Thought by the Chinese Communist Party" but as; "Maoism" outside of China.

Maoism held that unlike in Marxism power is not held by the workers, the Proletariat. Which it viewed as a bourgeois urban elite. As they actually were in a largely non-industrialised China.

Instead Maoism believed that power is held by the Peasants. The people who toil on farms, exploited by their Feudal lords.

Particularly Marxist-Leninist Communism has the concept of; "The Revolutionary Vanguard." An elite group within the population. Who through their superior understanding and wisdom must lead the masses in revolution.

This is an attitude you still very much see in western Progressive politicians. Along with the US media. Particularly Social Media.

Maoist Communism however introduced the concept of the; "Mass Line." Essentially that there is no such thing as the self-appointed elite of the Revolutionary Vanguard. Instead it is the masses who must move together towards revolution.

This all conveniently allowed Mao Zedong to lead his supporters against the bourgeois, urban proletarian vanguard. Who were trying to depose him in the wake of the failure of The Great Leap Forward.

This plunged China into 10 years of an almost intra-Communist Party civil war. Known as the; "Cultural Revolution" this saw Mao's faction and those opposed slaughter each other in both large numbers and imaginative ways.

Maoism really fetishised the lifestyle of a peasant farmer. While rejecting all forms of industrialisation. Including the industrialisation of farming. As seen in Europe during the Second Agricultural Revolution.

So the lives of ordinary Chinese people certainly didn't improve during the Cultural Revolution. Arguably they got much worse.

In was towards the last years of the Cultural Revolution that Mao Zedong greeted US President Nixon in 1972. It ended with Mao Zedong's death in 1976.

After two years of an internal Communist Party struggle. Deng Xiaoping replaced Mao Zedong as China's de facto leader in 1978.

Deng Xiaoping also produced his own interpretation of Communism. "Deng Xiaoping's Thought by the Chinese Communist Party."

In doing this he borrowed the idea of; "Scientific Socialism" from the French Anarchist Pierre-Joseph Proudhon. Famous for the phrase; "All Property Is Theft." Even if the rejoinder; "All Possession Is Freedom" is often forgotten.

Scientific Socialism calls for a society led by those who are experts in their field. Not people who draw their power from their ability to dumb the population down to the point they support them.

A government which draws its power from reason. Rather than the sort of Personality Cult you still very often see surround western Progressive politicians.

A; "Technocratic Government." As it is more commonly referred to these days.

In adopting this idea Deng Xiaoping was able to end the factional infighting of the Cultural Revolution. The battles between the cults of the Proletarian Vanguard and the Peasant Mass Line.

He also launched the; "Beijing Spring (1978-1979)." In which ordinary people were not only allowed to, but also encouraged. To speak out about the suffering they had experienced during the Cultural Revolution and criticise the Communist Party officials responsible.

The name was chosen as a deliberate reference to the; "Prague Spring." Further underlining the rift between China and Soviet Russia caused by the latter's 1968 invasion of Czechoslovakia.

At around 18:06 on 30/4/22 (UK date) annoyingly I will have to finish this on Monday.

Edited at around 17:30 on 2/5/22 (UK date) to tidy the above and copy & paste;

Deng Xiaoping also re-embraced one of the main ideas behind The Great Leap Forward. The; "Primary Stage of Socialism."

Essentially China had not yet gone through the industrialisation and the economic development that goes with it.

Meaning it had not reached the point where Karl Marx had drawn up his political theory. So was not yet able to unite the workers in revolution.

Instead China must first go through industrialisation and economic development. In order to arrive at the point on which Karl Marx had based his theory.

Perhaps most importantly. Deng Xiaoping revolutionised the way in which China thought about how it would go through that industrialisation and economic development.

Marxist-Leninist Communism believes that markets are inherently Capitalist. Capitalism's sole purpose is to exploit the workers.

So the almost infinite number of, often irrational, individual decisions which make up markets. Must be replaced by a single, centrally planned economy.

A system to serve each person in accordance to their needs. As defined by that small, self-appointed elite of the Revolutionary Vanguard.

Deng Xiaoping felt that markets are not inherently Capitalist. So had some role to play in helping China advance beyond the Primary Stage of Socialism.

As he rather quotably put it;

"It doesn't matter if a cat is yellow, white or black. If it catches mice, then it is a good cat."

When he invited US President Nixon to Beijing. Mao Zedong probably envisioned a future in which a single Chinese State Owned Enterprise (SOE) would be able to sell goods to private US companies.

Deng Xiaoping created a system whereby not only were multiple Chinese SOE's able to compete with each other. To sell goods to private US companies. Certain Chinese people would be permitted to set up their own private companies.

This was certainly the case for Li Ning. Whose Olympic journey from champion to US dollar billionaire was really the story of Deng Xiaoping's China.

This introduction of market principles to China is officially known as; "Socialism With Chinese Characteristics." Unofficially it was summed up by the slogan; "Some people can get rich first."

Deng Xiaoping's reforms were incredibly successful. In the space of a decade China had developed economically to the point that a large, new middle-class had emerged.

In 1989 this new Chinese middle-class organised a popular movement demanding greater political freedoms. This so-called; "1989 Democracy Movement" organised protests in over 400 cities across China. Most notably in Beijing's Tiananmen Square.

There is still much debate as to Deng Xiaoping's role in the crushing of the 1989 Democracy Movement. However it certainly brought an end to his leadership of China. He retired in November 1989.

Although it was never officially stated, let alone published as a; "Thought." The crushing of the 1989 Democracy Movement ushered in a new social contract between the Chinese Communist Party and the Chinese people.

Essentially China's growing economic development and wealth would be the compensation. For the Chinese people no longer demanding greater and political freedoms.

The model of; "Totalitarian Capitalism."

As we've seen throughout the Opening Ceremony. China is now led by Xi Jinping.

In 2017 Xi Jinping was able to publish his own interpretation of Communism. "Xi Jinping's Thought by the Chinese Communist Party."

In doing so Xi Jinping became only the third Chinese leader to have his interpretation of Communism added to China's constitution. Alongside Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.

Having embraced the somewhat Capitalist notion that some can get rich first. China has also found itself embracing the Capitalist problem of; "Wealth Inequality."

Many parts of China still experiences extreme poverty. Of the type that people in More Economically Developed Countries probably can't even conceive of.

The Chinese government still gets very excited. Every time it is able to move villagers out of mud huts and into actual, proper houses. It gets even more excited when it is able to connect those houses to water and power supply grids.

Something which stands in stark contrast. To the glittering skyscrapers of cities like Beijing and Shanghai. Along with US dollar billionaires like Li Ning and the 406 Chinese people who are even richer than him.

Xi Jinping's interpretation of Communism is largely focused on closing that wealth gap. Returning Chinese Communism to its Marxist-Leninist roots. The ideals of Mao Zedong before The Great Leap Forward and the adoption of Maoism.

If the Deng Xiaoping era can be summed up by; "Some people can get rich first." Xi Jinping's era could almost be summed up by; "Some people are very rich. Now let's help everyone else."

Although it is worth pointing out that Xi Jinping talks in terms of this next part of China's journey taking as many as 15 generations. Suggesting he's thinking in terms of gradual wealth redistribution rather than some Great Leap Backwards.

In its application Xi Jinping's interpretation of Communism has focused a lot on cracking down on ostentatious displays of wealth.

The Athlete's Parade section introduced us to the; "Clean Plate Campaign." Which was launched in 2013 but really intensified after Xi Jinping's thoughts were published in 2017.

The Clean Plate Campaign is particularly focused on people who use big restaurant meals as a way to flaunt their wealth and status. A way to remind them that there are still many Chinese who do not share in that wealth.

While also warning them not to be tempted to obtain that wealth through embezzlement or tax evasion. The idea of wealth redistribution through taxation hardly being a Revolutionary Communist idea.

A number of wealthy, high-profile Chinese people have also taken to disappearing from the public eye recently.

Most notably Jack Ma. The founder of Alibaba, China's equivalent of Amazon and the Ant Group, China's equivalent of PayPal.

In October 2020, as he was about to be declared China's richest man. Jack Ma gave a speech that was very critical of China's attempts to regulate online banking services. Such as his Ant Group.

Jack Ma was not seen in public again until late January 2021.

It was then announced that China had imposed large fines against a dozen Chinese Tech giants. Including Alibaba and Ant Group along with the similarly sized Tencent and Baidu.

Some in the west have decided this is because the Chinese Communist Party views the size of these private companies as a threat to its authority.

However if you look at things like the Evergrande real estate company. There also seems to be a high degree of concern about the instability caused by the rapid, unsustainable growth of such companies.

Another case which people outside of China may be familiar with is the actress Fan Bingbing. Who has appeared in big Hollywood movies like; "Iron Man 3" (2013) and; "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" (2014).

In May 2018 Chinese TV released details of one of Fan Bingbing's movie contracts. Showing she had committed tax evasion. With there being one salary being submitted to the tax authorities and the much bigger salary she actually received.

Fan Bingbing was then not seen in public between July and October 2018. When she apologised and announced she would be paying some US$127million in back taxes.

It seems that both Jack Ma and Fan Bingbing had experienced a version of laojiao. Re-Education Through Labour.

More recently China has been cracking down on online video games. Which increasingly rely on online payment systems. Such as Jack Ma's Ant Group.

Personally I found it entertaining that in 2021 China was really focused on Social Media celebrities. Which struck me as another example of China taking pity on the US/UK.

Pointing out that what they were trying and failing to do with myself, Miley Cyrus and Instagram. Is just really, really dumb.

Firework Finish.

It has become a tradition, a cliche almost. That these ceremonies always end in a big firework display.

As the inventors of fireworks. China did not break with that tradition.

Their firework display featured the Olympic Rings. Along with hints of the branches of a Yellow Mountains Pine.

In reference to the firework display with ended the Opening Speeches section. The section in which Xi Jinping appeared to officially open the games.

It also contains hints of the; "Fenghuang." The mythical Chinese bird which uses the Sun to travel between dimensions.

We were first introduced to the Fenghuang at the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Held in PyeongChang, Republic of Korea (RoK/South).

Specifically in the section I entitled; "Cowardly Cheese." A section the US referenced heavily itself. During the alleged inauguration of the Biden regime in January 2021.

The Fenghuang as some similarity to the Russian mythological; "Firebird." Used as a metaphor for the pursuit of the unattainable. Particularly in the tale of; "The Firebird and the Grey Wolf."

We were introduced to the Firebird during the 2014 Winter games. Held in Sochi, Russia. Which were attacked by the former Biden regime alongside Ukrainian Nazi Grey Wolves.

The entire firework display had to motif of messages being transmitted from Earth to the heavens, in the form of light. A reminder that China is still the only nation to have a QUESS satellite.

It was the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics which first introduced us to the; "Child-Like Ciphers."

Within the arena the few performers who had taken part in the ceremony stood and watched. Waving at the Olympic Cauldron above them.
