As of around 21:10 on 24/7/12 my Torch is allowing me onto both the 3G and Blackberry network but still won't allow me onto email. Of course the moment I tried going onto the Internet to tell you about this both the Blackberry and 3G networks dropped out.
And yes I'm aware that I'm crashing the news but it's Olympics so they should get used to it. As for the current situation in Syria that can be summed up by the simple phrase; Might Makes Right.

The Torch Has Arrived in Thornton Heath!
Yeah I know only a day late. Anyway it's around 19:27 on Tuesday July 24th (24/7/12) and I'm back from the pub. I'm proud to announce that Thornton Heath, Croydon is fully getting into the spirit of the 2012 London Olympics. Well the council have stuck some banners up and the place is crawling with police from West Yorkshire. My father spoke to two of them while I rested on the bonnet of the car proud in the knowledge I can still recognise a man from the shape of his helmet.
More importantly though at around 17:00 I swapped the SIM card from my existing Blackberry into my other Blackberry. Despite the fact it still works just fine in the original Blackberry in the other Blackberry the network is still refusing to accept that it is a Blackberry SIM so I can't yet send emails from it. Curiously though I can use the Internet on it and it comes pre-loaded with both Twitter and YouTube apps along with some of the previous owners SMS messages.

Leveson Draws to a Close.
Today (24/7/12) the public hearings phase of Britain's infamous Leveson Inquiry into press standards has ended just in time for the start of the Olympics. However in order to keep the issue in the news during the games 8 people are be to charged with 19 criminal offences relating to phone hacking. These include Rebekah Brooks and Andy Caulson the Prime Minister's former director of communications. For Ms Brooks these new charges will be added to the charges of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice that she is already facing. Meanwhile the dress rehearsal for the Olympic opening ceremony was held last night causing a large campaign encouraging people not to reveal the details. This included the use of the Twitter hashtag #don'tspoilthesurprise.
Combined the idea of these two stories is to make visiting athletes along with their political attaches, minders and visiting Olympic VIP's paranoid about what they discuss on electronic communications like telephone calls and emails. Although at this point a little bit of paranoia is a good thing the idea is to make the visitors panic and expose their depth of technical knowledge in counter-surveillance techniques.
In other news Adam Barker the son of famous and really funny British comedian Ronnie Barker of "The Two Ronnies" and "Porridge" has be remanded in custody over charges of making, possessing and distributing child pornography. This is obviously another attempt to bring up the issue of paedophilia both as it relates to my case history and as the more global debate over sexual age of consent laws. I have to say though arresting a suspected paedophile is a much better way of raising the issue then Britain's usual tactic of sending a paedophile to go and kidnap and murder a couple of children.
Elsewhere Basildon council have served eviction papers on legal part of the Dale Farm gypsy/travellers site in Essex on the grounds of over-crowding. This of course re-raises the questions about the October-2011 eviction that was justified by Basildon council's refusal to grant the site planning permission despite the suspicion that the refusal was due to race of the applicants rather then the law.
Also there's been an outbreak of Legionnaires disease in Stoke-on-Trent that I'll need to look at in more detail and a landslide in Dorset which just seems to be a case of a cliff-edge collapsing as they are prone to do.

That Should Solve the Battery Problem.
In order to solve the problem of my Blackberry dying during the Olympics I've gone out and brought another Blackberry handset. In the end I went for a 9800 known as "the Torch." The idea is to just switch the SIM card over so the number and email etc should all be the same. While I managed to pick it up second it's still quite a painfully pricey solution. However judging by the way my father's been enviously eyeing my other Blackberry I think we know how this is going to end.

This Evening...
... I've been working on a more detailed response to the Aurora shooting. As I don't want to get into a position of talking about it anymore then I really have to for reasons already mentioned I've decided it's going to take the form of one really long post. Unfortunately it's not finished yet so I hope to post it tomorrow (24/7/12) evening provided the Olympics doesn't get too busy.
To give you an idea of how lengthy it's going to be it mainly focuses on a more detailed plan of how the USA could introduce a sort of early warning system to reduce the risk of future mass shootings along with my understanding of the legal and mental health implications of the suspect. However in the meantime I should say that at this point I'd be more worried if the survivors and the people close to them weren't suffering from at least one of the following; sadness, anger, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, restlessness or mild paranoia. These are all perfectly normal human responses to this type of trauma and should fade with time.
Oh and I'm considering introducing an obligatory time and date stamp: 22:15 on 23/7/12.

On The Plus Side.
I suppose saying there's 4 days until the start of the Olympics is just another way of saying there's just 20 days until the end of the Olympics.
Today (23/7/12) in Britain police in Manchester are searching for two missing sisters, Liana and Teigan (Irish names) aged 8 and 11 who failed to return home yesterday (22/7/12) after playing in a local park. The investigation is still at a very early stage so I almost hesitate to write this. However the Olympics has always been a hot-bed of paedophilia. This is especially true of sports like women's gymnastics which features flexible young women prancing about in not very many clothes. You may remember at the 2008 Olympics there was a big scandal about whether some of the competitors were over 16 years old or not. This was because people from primarily Anglo-Saxon countries such as the USA and UK would feel uncomfortable talking about how much they enjoyed perving over the competitors if they were younger then 16. For the US part is was also an effort to promote discussion about a having 16 as a universal global age of sexual consent. The 2012 Olympics will end with the Olympic flag being passed from the 2012 hosts Britain to the 2016 hosts Brazil. As I've mentioned before Brazil has significant problems with child prostitution which it is working hard to eliminate ahead of the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics by reaching out to visiting nations and introducing sexual age of consent laws. Therefore it has always been highly likely that the 2012 Olympics will be marred by a grisly child sex murder.
That said there is also a strong possibility that the girls are safe and well and the police are just putting on a performance to give the news channels the opportunity to discuss the progress of the Olympic flame as it makes it's way close to my house. Obviously they couldn't just discuss the progress of the Olympic flame because that would be too simple and that leaves little chance of foreigners being confused. At around 10:25 that's just 35 minutes away. As you may have noticed I'll be doing something else.

Using my smartphone at around 10:55 I found out via Twitter that Manchester police had found the two missing girls safe and well. Apparently they'd been taken for a sleep over (read as drink and drugs) in an abandoned house by a older girl (14 y/o). At almost exactly the same time a Norwegian athlete was carrying the Olympic torch in front of my local shops. Unfortunately you wouldn't have been able to see that on the BBC livestream because apparently too much traffic on the 3G network caused the signal to drop out.
Apart from the obvious reason the fact that the two girls were found safe and well is good news because it demonstrates my first instincts tend to be correct. The incident also touches on something I was hoping to save until the end of the Olympics under the title; "If You Enjoyed the Olympics Feel Free to Thank the USA on Your Way Out." Since the security operation for the 2012 games started over a year ago it quickly became obvious that Britain intended to hit the visiting foreign delegations as hard as possible. This made large traffic blocking demonstrations, riots and false flag terrorist attacks all very real possibilities. However since around the start of 2012 the USA has been putting extensive pressure on Britain to tone it the f**k down. One element of the argument over whether it would be too late to change the uniforms of the USA team from a Chinese manufacturer is just one example of this. So Britain is now trying to make something of a joke about how far they'll be prepared to go to find out who was aware of the pressure from the USA and what they think about it. Further examples of this from to today alone include the news that a lawyer who was in hospital in Bristol has died from his injuries, news that a man has been arrested after 8 people were (lightly) injured by a dog in Hastings and the news that in Newcastle which saw Saturday's (21/7/12) gas explosion the council have taken over Olympic security at the St James Park football stadium from G4s.
Readers with long memories will remember that in the arguments with the Notting Hill Housing Trust (NHHT) over number (#) 50 Beechwood one issue was NHHT's claim that they had provided security to contain problems at the address. However it quickly turned out that their "Security" was not trained or licensed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Getting their staff SIA licenses has been one of the big problems G4s has been having. Funnily enough although I doubt I'll get the time to write a full update I've been hit by a sudden urge to change the name I use for the Syrian insurgents from the Saudi Irregular Army (SIA) to the more accurate but unwieldy Saudi and Qatari Irregular Army (SQIA).

Olympic Torch Relay.
Apparently you can watch the Olympic torch relay as it makes it's way around Britain here on the BBC website; http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay/day66
So in theory at around 11:00 tomorrow (23/7/12) that should be showing a livestream from my local corner shop. At around 23:10 on 22/7/12 I think the point I was trying to make was that it's been driving around the UK for so long it was bound to bump into something eventually. Anyway I'm now going to try to go to bed. I say "try" because last night just before I went to bed I got into an argument with myself about vicarious liability. Damn near kept me up until 03:00.
